Rotary Cutter JD 503 Rotary cutter

Trying to find some information about a 5 ft. JD 503 cutter. Can't find any information on the web. Does anyone know about this cutter? Is it a light duty cutter?

Probably too old to find much info on the web. Parts list is available on johndeere.com (at least it was last fall when I bough new blades for mine). Bought mine used, but the owner's manual is copyrighted 1989. I think it would rate closer to today's medium duty models. Manual reccomends tractor pto hp at 18 min, 75 max. Doubt many manufacturer's would reccomend 75 hp on a light duty unit.

I had one, kind of a bottom of the line as far as I am concerned. Very light duty cutter.

The 503 (and 403) were sold up until the early 2000's.. They are very similar to (if not the same as) the LX 5/4 rotory cutters.. Although my LX 4 come with a slip clutch instead of shear pin on my dads 503

I've got a JD 503. When I got my new Kubota L3400 HST a couple years ago, I got the used 503. I got a manual off ebay for $3.00. I like it. It does all I want, chopping down little saplings while cutting the grass just fine. My neighbor borrowed the 503 to cut 30 acres of really tall reed and grass, everything went fine. I grease it and that's about it. The 503 doesn't seem to be too light compared to what I've seen new, it's a heavy, decent built chunk of steel. BTW, I've got tons of rocks...it just keeps working!
