Thanks in advance for some help with these JD 755 questions.

1. Does your coolant temperature warning light (top right on lamp cluster) on the dash come on with the other lamps when you turn the ignition key to on. Mine does not (I don't remember if it ever did) and the way I interpret the operator manual on page 61 is that it does not light when doing a lamp test which seems odd. How would you know if it is working?

2. Have you lubed the U joint on the drive shaft (engine to transmission) under the floor board access panel? Operator manual says its a 500 hour maintenance lube but I can't see any zerk fitting or even a hole for a needle access. Manual doesn't show anything. I had the dealer do the original 500 hour service but only they know if and how it was done.

I have a service manual too but it does not provide info on the above. Thanks.

I can't recall exactly which lights come on before I start cranking my 755, but I think your right, the temp light doesn't come on. I always found it odd that all the lights didn't come on but never had time to look into it.

The first time I greased the u-joint I did it from the underside but I recall it was a dirty job. I have the cover plate off my tractor right now so I gave it a couple more pumps just to be safe. It is much easier from the top, but the first time I removed the plate it was a serious pain. All the dirt and water collect in the recesses and the bolts were seized tight to the clips. I went and bought new bolts and clips and lubed them up before I put everything back together. When I took them out this time there was no problems at all.

Just went out and checked mine and the temp light is off when the key is in the run position but when I crank the engine the light is on.

Hope that helps.

Yourkie, I will try to remember to check mine for you. I don't think it does come on before starting (maybe while cranking), but I know mine works because last summer it came on for the very first time ever since I bought it new in 19991 or so. I had gotten lazy about cleaning the screen behind the radiator because it was rarely dirty, and it had loaded up to the point it was restricting air flow. After cleaning it, no more problem. Fortunately, no harm done.

You might check the archives for my post about the oil filler cap cutting into the radiator hose, which I discovered before it leaked.

I don't recall lubing that joint you described, so Ill need to check on that too. Funny you bring it up, because this past spring I went through the owner's manual making sure I had covered all the greasse fittings, and i don't remember that one.

I currently have about 950 hours on my machine.

Thanks guys I was in the process of doing my pre winter maintenance OLF on my 755 and wanted to catchup on some loose ends. I had the battery out at the time. It's nice to have buddies around with the same tractor that can answer some off the wall questions that are not always easy to get answered.

Yankeerider...Thanks. That's a good point about that oil filler cap and the radiator hose. It runs close and depending on installation it could rub. Mine looks OK. I had a problem with a fuel line that rubbed years ago. I have about 763 hrs on mine but I bought it in 1989. I change oil, filter and lube it every 50hrs which is about once a year.

Jason....Thanks. My water temp light now comes on also when I'm in starting mode. I replaced the bulb. For some reason I didn't remember that it worked that way and the manuals weren't clear.

The trans. driveshaft U-joint (under floor board panel) on mine does not have a zerk fitting. There is a hole in the center of the yoke facing front of tractor but it doesn't appear as threaded. Does yours have a straight or 90 degree zerk fitting at that location or is it elsewhere on the U joint.

Thanks again.

My driveshaft has a 45 degree zerk facing the front of the tractor.

Thanks Jason. My fitting is either missing or the u-joint is allegedly one of those maintenance free types. I suspect it's might be missing.

I just checked my owner's manual and apparently I have missed greasing this fitting (if it's there) during it's 500 hr service. Looks like I'll pull the cover and look- maybe this weekend, though it's my wife's birthday and she wants me to help her tile the kitchen backsplash. I have to spend some time working in that area of the tractor anyway because I have a hydraulic leak there somewhere. Pulling that panel will probably make it easier to find. I think it may be the mower lift cylinder, or an o-ring on one of the lines to the cylinder. It's been leaking for years, and I'm tired of the mower getting oiled up through the mowing months. (Good news, though, is the mower isn't at all rusty:D)

Yourkie, when I do it, if I can find a fitting I'll try to get a picture for you.

I looked at John Deere 755 parts and they provide the following info.

They say that there are (2) JD 7760 65 degree zerk type fittings in that joint. The opening on the U-Joint yoke is larger than any of the metric or sae fittings that I currently have available in my misc parts bin. So I'm going to buy a get a couple from the dealer. I'm not sure if I can install these without pulling the shaft.

They actually document this $0.79 part much more than I expected (or you want to know about a grease fitting) with a detailed manufacturing diagram and the following specs. I think you must be a registered user of JD Parts to get access. It's open to anyone if they sign up. http://www.deere.com/en_US/groundscare/parts/index.html

Yourkie-

You may already have dealt with your u-joint situation, but, in case you didn't, here's a picture of mine. I removed the access panel on Saturday, and the joint had stopped in a perfect position for me to give it two squirts of grease. I don't recall doing this before, but I did the 500 hour service quite a few years ago, so may have. The tractor's right at 950 hours now- changed the hydraulic fluid and filter at about 930, 'cuz I did the 500 hr service at about 450 hrs.
