Thanks in advance to any who can help.

I have hydraulic fluid leaking around the PTO shaft. This is a 1974 830.

Do you think part 14-seal or 19-gasket, or both, will stop the leak?

Hopefully the Deere parts diagram and my picture will both show up.

Both gasket & seal should be replaced to stop leak. Before removing shaft be sure pto control lever on LH side of trans case is in disengaged position so shift collar will stay on pto input shaft when rear shaft is removed.

I was learned that I need to drive the tractor s front wheels in a ditch with the rear wheels high up.
Then you do not need to drain the oil.
Remove the thaft and the sealhousing. Remove that housing from the shaft. Remove the old seal and clean the area where the seal was running.
Now for my own little trick.
Make yourself a spacer the size of the seal from 2mm plate and add that inside before fitting the new seal.
Reassemble and drive off.
Remember the check your oillevel.

That little spacer will give your seal extra protection when doing bushhacking.

Thanks.

Do I understand that part 13-bearing housing is removed, then the shaft is removed, with PTO disengaged, far enough to replace the seal. Then replace the gasket? Is it necessary to remove the shaft all the way?

Thanks. Will do the work in my shop so I'm not sure I can get the front lower; thanks for the tips.

Good news!

I removed the old seal, pressed in the new seal, replaced the gasket and put it all back together.

Still have to add fluid and check for leaks.

Thanks for the insight.

Next project for the 830: brake valve overhaul.
