I am looking at getting a JD 5425 with all the bells and whistles, loader 3rd valve on the loader air ride suspension, rear link arm leveler on the fender, buddy seat,
24x24 power reverser, dealer quoted 48,700 cash price, but i know i am going to need to borrow around 10,000. does this sound like a good price.

I assume that you are specifying a cab model.

Go to the JD website configurator and build your tractor. I think take about 10% off and thats a decent price. Bells and whistles add up but its easier to get them now than later.

Any reason you wouldn't bump up to the 5525? I would like to know how much the "bump" would cost. I do know from looking at used tractors that any money spent up front on cab and MFWD, you can recoup later if you have to sell.

Hi Inseeme,

I ordered a 5425 with 542SL loader and Cab and received 23% off msrp by taking advantage of the Members Plus program for Equine Canada members. There are other associations that participate such as AQHA. Otherwise we would have expected about 10 to 12% off list if we wanted JD Credit low financing instead. You can't combine these programs, we tried! We also decided 81 hp - 10 less than the 5525 was sufficient and used the $2000.00 difference saved to get more options such as EH hitch, 24x24 hi-lo power shift, premium cab with air seat, rear wiper etc. I was loathe to pay 2000.00 extra for essentially a change in fuel pump calibration. Did the 48,700 include the loader? I went with 2 mid valves instead of three to save about $1,500.00. If I ever need the third in future, such as for a grapple, I'll run an extra 6 feet of hydraulic hose to a rear remote instead.

Thanks for the info, yes Heywood that does include the loader with the third valve up front. How do you like your tractor, is it quiet in the cab? I just wanted to see if that was a good price.

I haven't got it yet! I ordered it 3 weeks ago, and the build date is March 12. The dealer can actually get the date the tractor is going to get built when the order is submitted. Now that's impressive! I don't think the car manufacturers can do that. The one that I demo'd was pretty quiet. The 4 cylinder turbocharged 276 engine also sounded nice too. Quieter than the Perkins in the Kioti DK65 which we also demo'd. I hate to admit it, but to me, how a particular diesel engine (in anything) sounds is one of my deciding factors.;)

You might not say that after you use the factory joystick with the thumb button - it rocks. I have 100+_ hours with a grapple on my 5525 and the 3rd valve function on the thumb ROCKS. Buy it from the factory.

I paid $41K for my 5525 2 years ago. Cab, 12 speed, epto, eh, 4wd, 2 mid valves, 2 rear valves.

I then added a 542SL and grapple and the 3rd valve a year later.

I am sold on getting them loaded from the factory.

I would get the 3 mid valves.
Get the DELUXE valves on the back in case you want to run a motor, you don't have to put a bungee cord in the dash to hold it on.

Get the rear wiper.

Get the extendable links.

Get the electronic hitch. Reminds me, I need to put the switch on the right fender.

On the loader - look at getting the suspension kit. For moving hay bales over a rough field - it is a life saver.

What tire option are you going with?

Any weights?

I also just added the 2 additional front and 2 additional rear lights and the power ports. The shuttle control is nice if you do a lot of loader work (changes the speed the power reverser engages).

I didn't know enough about tractor when I bought my 5525. If I had to do it over, I would get it loaded. In the big picture, all the extra goodies are a rounding error.

The cab rocks. It is quiet and the heat/ac works great. I bought mine to clear a bunch of cedar trees, burning them,e tc. I went thru a bunch of cab filters, but that is OK - save me from breathing that crap.

I just added the buddy seat for my kiddo. He loves riding around on it.

Also, the book says you can use a buddy seat with the mechanical PTO lever (it hits the seat). We just bent the lever some - works fine.

Good recommendations ddivinia,
I did get the dealer to throw in the rear wiper, but you sure can get nickel and dimed on the options, even the little stuff like horn, toolboxes and right-hand EH hitch fender button. I'm guessing that is for an extra button so you have one on both sides. I specified the std R1s - 16.9 x 30. This dealer includes loading the tires at no cost; they won't let one out the door without it. I tried to specify options that aren't easily added later, if required.

It is amazing how nasty that rear window can get when mowing, etc.

like horn,
----
Just added that. The cab is so quiet, you can't her the horn with the engine running.

toolboxes
----

I have one toolbox on the right side. That should be standard on all tractors. Wish my 4720 had a spot for one.

and right-hand EH hitch fender button. I'm guessing that is for an extra button so you have one on both sides.

Exactly - when you are hooking up implements it is nice to have buttons on both sides. Better than having to go into the cab.

The e-hitch can be hairy at times - learn how to run it before you have a big wide implement on it. I cracked my right fender.

I am not sure which ones I have. R1s - not the huge ones.

If you plan on using a grapple very much - have them put the 3rd valve on - it is really slick. I can dump and move the grapple and pull it into reverse in one motion. The hydraulics of the 5525 can keep up with it.

Another option worth looking at is he high back seat. It just adds onto the seat back - it helps with back support immensely.

You might want a guard for the lower rear window. I broke out two and then put a polycarbonate one that is available thru JD with a special part number and I put a guard on it also.

Yeah, I'm wondering about the glass. The dealer said never drive with a door open or the stress on the glass will cause it to shatter if you hit a bump. I like the high-back seat idea. Also, I am going to add the buddy seat, surprise the wife;) - what's another $405.00 anyway when you're spending $47K?
