I know that I have dirty fuel so please no admonishion on that. But it is a real pain cleaning the 4 strainer screens before the fuel gets to the pump and filter. I am considering pulling them all out and putting an inline filter on the line between the sediment bowl and banjo fitting at the fuel pump. Does anyone have any recommendations on this?

I think it's a good idea and would do the same.

That's a fine idea, BUT - if the source of your fuel issues is diesel bugs, aka HUMbugs (hydrocarbon Utilizing Microbes), the problem will continue to plague and e3ven destroy your injector pump eventually. I strongly recommend that you remove your fuel tank and thoroughly clean it inside and out. Steam cleaning is good, or manual cleaning, but you need to really scrub it thoroughly and then treat with biocides specifically made for this problem. You can put a handful of lead or steel shot in the tank and shake it madly for several minutes to knock loose rust and sediment, then rinse and repeat, followed by strong detergent like TSP and HOT water, followed by drying and a rinse with a hot solvent like acetone or MEK. The fuel lines and sediment bowl should receive thorough cleaning, too. Diesel bugs will come back to haunt you if you're not very diligent about the cleaning and then keeping your fuel treated with a biocide.

IF it is not bugs, how do you fuel your tractor? If it is just dirty fuel, why not use a filtered funnel...

Ronald at Ranchhand supply has a really nice fix for what you want to do. It is a very easy conversion and easy to understand and put on. Pat

Do you store your own bulk fuel or do you get it at the pump in five gallon jugs?

I get fuel in my 20 and 30 gallon plastic barrels and buy off-road diesel from a fuel oil dealer that also operates a gas/diesel/off road-diesel filling station. I store the barrels in the barn and fill 5 gallon cans for easier handling to 3 machines using diesel.

I believe the problem is not with the fuel you're buying, it's the fuel tank on the tractor. Like Rich said, the tank will have to be removed and thoroughly cleaned inside. The fuel filter replaced, and the sediment bowl and banjo bolt screen thoroughly cleaned. You have to remember that these little critters are microbes and can bring a 10,000 HP diesel engine to it's knees so subsequent dosing of the fuel with a biocide for a period will be necessary.
