Hey all, I’ve got a JD2320 that won’t start. I had a friend stop by who checked a few things and when he pulled the fuel cutoff solenoid found that the fuel cutoff is stuck in the off position. The solenoid works but the valve (or whatever that’s called in the governor) is not springing back. My friend suggested trying to pull it with a magnet which I tried but to no avail. Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to fit a strong enough magnet in there to do any good. He also said to drain the fuel and fill the bowl with sea foam then try cranking it that way to see if the sea foam can break up whatever is causing the cutoff valve to stick. I’ve tried that as well but nothing. If I put my finger where the solenoid goes I can push on the valve which compresses maybe 1/16 or so of an inch and can turn it with the pad of my finger but can‘t get it to spring out.
I have a technical manual and in looking at section 30-30-65 through 67, it appears that The governor housing can be removed. I’m not a mechanic but am mechanically inclined. I don’t mind tackling projects but when it comes to diesels and especially anything relating to the engine and timing, I’m way over my head. My friend said I could pull the pump and take it to someone but that I’d have to make sure I set it a TDC. Well, timing is not my thing, lol. Can I just unbolt the governor housing? There’s a gasket on that housing but the JD Parts online does not show parts for the fuel injector pump so I don’t know how I would get another gasket. I’m hoping I don’t have to drop $2k plus on this thing for a new pump and labor. Any ideas would be appreciated.
