Hi everyone,
I am in need of some help. I have a 2010 JD 3720 with 600 hours and the brakes are hanging up. I have to get a hammer and tap them back free to fully release them. They are not missing the return springs. I am not sure what to tear in to next? I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? Thanks, UnclePaul

Before actually getting out the wrenches, I'd start at the bottom of the pedals and visually inspect the mechanical linkages. One or both may be jammed or bent. You could have a branch jammed in there, excess dirt built up on a grease point, or have run over something that jumped up and bent them.

If you have a cab model I'd suggest lubing shaft(parts key #9)

Disconnect rod #35 in the previous posters picture and make sure that it is not the actual internal mechanism that is sticking. Chances are it is the external linkage that is binding. Do both brakes do it independently of each other?

Pop of the linkage at the rear. Spray PB Blaster where the brake levers go into the housing. Take bars and keep working the levers back and fourth while spraying more Blaster. They will free up eventually. The steel levers corrode to the aluminum housings constantly. Good luck.

Thanks for all of the responses. I think Jx Jim and mechanic327 are on to it. I have sprayed them and they seem a little better. I will take your advice and real work them back and forth. greg-g I have checked the linkage it seems fine and the petals return just the brakes don't.

Guess we have different definitions of "linkage". In my world brake linkage is everything externally accessible between the pedal and the brake housing - which would in fact include the levers. Same for clutch linkage, same for throttle linkage, same for hydraulic linkage.

Linkage consists of all the bits between the end parts.

Agree with everyone else here that suggested cleaning and lubricating the external parts. Had the exact same issue on my 3520 a couple of times now and a mallet and some spray lubricant fixed it both times. The first time though it took a while to work it all loose. Probably took a half hour of back and forth on it.
