I couldnt figure out where to get an answer and so i figured you all are the most qualified. I repair all my own equipment but diesels are new to me.
I purchased a 95 ingersoll rand xp750wjd towable air compressor that has been sitting for probably 5 years. Before attemping to start i replaced the batteries, dumped and refilled the fuel tank, checked the fluids. It turns over nicely and with a little ether it kicks over. But it doesnt run. I found the primer and pumped it up. Any tips on getting a big old john deere motor running? I believe it is a 6076a

I would crack open one of the lines at an injector and crank it over...

It will either let the air bled out or AT LEAST if you see fuel there, you will know it's getting fuel.

You can also make sure the fuel solenoid is turning on. If it's manual, you will see it working. It it's electric, you should hear it click...

That's where I would start...

What he^^^said plus you didn't mention changing filters. Unless old fuel was clear when dumped,it may be necessary to change fuel filter more than once to rid the system of algae and other contaminates. A word of caution about hard to start diesels in general. Diesel engines are equipped with heavy duty starters that will quickly overheat from continuous cranking and/or less than fully charged batteries. Don't crank for long,put the charger on while it cools before having another go at it. I go the extra mile and keep a fan blowing on starter during hard to start situations.

We have to know what injection pump it has on it..
A Bosch inline pump, the lines going to the injectors come off the pump in a straight line??
Or a CAV/Delphi or Stanadyne rotary pump.. The lines are in a circle..
Either one> loosen the lines AT the injectors.. MAKE SURE theres fuel UP TO in pump INLET.. loosen the inlet line AT THE INJ. PUMP & SPIN THE ENGINE & WATCH IT pump OUT.. THAT"LL show u the lift pump IS WORKING.. & tighten the INLET line up..
Check the shut-off>> make sure its going to the RUN position OR listen for a click on electric sol..
Now spin the engine & LOOK for fuel to squirt out the loosened injector lines..
Answer those questions & do these checks & we'll go from there.. Good luck..

Ok. So i was able to crack all the lines at the injectors. After cranking, it appears that diesel is only coming from the first 3 injectors (to the left). The injector pump is a denso? Straight not rounded. Im assuming this is the issue. Any tips? Clogged injector pump?il

if you are not getting fuel to all the injectors then more than likely it is air in the lines. possibly sucking air somewhere, replace hoses and bleed. are you getting bubbles at any of the injectors? hope that will solve it

Its not getting enough fuel.. whae u pump the hand primer, do you feel any resistance ?? does it get hard THEN soft?? can u hear fuel coming out of the pump??
It has a check valve on the outlet side of the pump{overflow valve}.. they HAVE TO HOLD PRESSURE.. & pop off at 25psi..
BUT>> there has to be enough fuel to FEED IT..
You can "sneek around it" by pumping the hand primer while some else cranks the engine.. just keep pumping..
IF it starts, check the overflow valve.. they are REAL BAD about breaking the spring inside.. Take it out/off & use a small pick to press on the ball.. it should have a fair amount of tension on it.. OR shake it.. you shouldn't hear it rattle..
