I've got to mount a new 11.2 x 24 tire and tube on a freshly painted rim .... I've heard of people tearing the valve stem out of the tube when the rim slips inside the tire under torque ... is there a way to prevent this, or is it a rare problem? I noticed the old tire I removed had the valve stem torn out of the tube.

What shape is the knurling on the rim in?
Also once the tire is mounted clean as much of the mounting lube off of the rim,
and bead sealer can help prevent rim slippage.

The extreme measure would be to modify your rims to add bead locks, screw the tire to the rim.

Neither the OEM rim or the new rim I just welded to the old center section had knurling as I'm used to seeing on automotive rims. I don't anticipate any excessive forces on the wheel, but would rather have it dig up the ground than spin inside the tire. I plan on wiping down the rim and tire bead with alcohol but not sure if that will be enough .... hopefully won't make the tire too hard to seat.

I have used clear silicone sealer/caulk (100 %) on a wheel/tire before. All you need is a VERY light coating on the wheel and tire, it beads up easy, and don't use it until the next day.

That's an idea, might look into that. I assume adhesive is out of the question?

Yeah, at least the silicone rubber doesn't hinder the tire changing process later on and doesn't make a mess.

Use less fluid in the tires and more air pressure to help keep the bead seated. I find the tires only spin if the pressure is too low and/or the tire is overloaded.

You can buy tire bead lube/sealant, a black goop you put on the rim before inflation. I would NOT recommend using silicone caulk unless you are trying to sell the tractor quickly.

Ordered some of the bead sealer .... as for filling, I'm still up in the air about if, what fill, and how much. Tractor spends much of it's time with a backhoe installed which kind of negates the need for tire loading, and I have a good three point ballast for other times. Only time I think I need the loading is when I'm towing or using an implement that rests on the ground ... disker etc.

I use V belt dressing aerosol on the bead of the tire and after installing, pump the tire up to full pressure (sidewall listing). I also mark the tire and the rim to detect any slippage. For the first few months, or for awhile, I try not to load up the tire.....like an R1 and doing any plowing to give it time to seat.

After that I see if I can lower the pressure to something more comfortable and keep an eye on the slippage, doing what work needs to be done with the tractor. I had that problem with stiff sidewall tires on my 2400 rears trying to run low pressure for a softer ride. On R1s, seemingly having a softer sidewall (plies didn't seem to matter on the differences between tire styles) I didn't have a problem running 13 or so# on a 18# rated rear without any dressing.

Excellent suggestions .... specially marking the rim, didn't even think of that. Figured I'd run the pressure high for a while. I really don't shock the tire much ... like yanking on things but occasionally tow quite a bit of load uphill. Well ... I do run the loader into thing pretty hard now an then.
