I bought a 48" KKII tiller and I am in the process of hooking it up. I purchased a Pat's Easy Change System and installed it on the 3pt. hitch. My question is, does anybody have this setup and did you have to shorten the PTO shaft? When I bought the tiller at TSC, I had to help the young man that sold it to me, figure out which PTO I needed out of a pile of PTO shafts they had. I just want to make sure that I got the right one before I cut it. Thanks for the help. Morpheus

I have the Quick Hitch on the BX2350. It should add a similar length as Pat's.

I did NOT have to cut my PTO shaft for the KK II tiller. I had at least 2" inches of play at the closest point.

The difference being the 2230 vs. the 2350. perhaps they have different geometry?

How much do you show you need to cut off?

I appreciate the pm. At the shortest distance the end of the shafts are right at the universal shields.

I have the 5' KK tiller, had it on my JD 2210 and now on my JD 2520 and did not cut any off. If they got the shaft out of a pile, sounds like you got the wrong one. Could it be for a mower or something else?

You maybe right. We got the same length as the Kk chain drive, but we may have got the wrong one. Thanks.

I wouldn't trust a guy at TSC to know about the shaft lengths.

Your tiller handbook should tell you have to measure for the proper PTO length. On smaller tractors, that length is more critical.

My dealer cut my tiller PTO shaft to fit the tractor (both purchased at the same time). Then I added Pat's; Worked fine until I rolled over a clump of dirt with the tiller all the way down--the PTO shaft came apart.

Too short, they come apart, not good. Too long, they bottom out and put stress on both the tractor and tiller.

I'd read the manual, then check the shaft length at full up. Then I'd put the rear wheels on a 4x4 block (or sink the tiller to max depth) to measure overlap at full down.

Hope this helps.

Morpheus, I went out and measured the PTO shaft on my tiller. Pull off the PTO shaft and from the end of the slide (there should be aprox. 1" sticks out of the yellow plastic) to the end of the yoke, being strait, mine measured 20 1/4". I don't see that the width makes any difference in the length of the PTO shaft. Hope this helps, and if you need me to measure anything else let me know.

Good idea on the 4x4. Thanks

I have the KKII 48" with my Kioti CK20 and Pat's easy change.

The PTO shaft was strapped to the tiller when I picked it up at TSC and it was marked as 48"KKII tiller.
Pulling the shaft from a big pile should have been a RED FLAG.

All the dimensions on category 1 3point hitches with PTO shaft etc are standardized by ASAE. The only thing changed is the addition of the Pat's, which adds about 3" to the length of the shaft required technically, in reality if you have the right shaft it won't make any difference at all. It makes no difference if you have a Kioti, Kubota, JD ,NH, Montana etc. the standard dimensions are all the same.

I have run my tiller hard for many hours from full up to as far down as it will go (about 8" ), with NO problems.

Now if memory serves it gives the correct length of the shaft and how to measure it in your manual. If you can't find yours down load it from KK.

I would go back to TSC with the old shaft and the correct dimensions and have them give you the right one. Don't take no for an answer.

Good luck.
