Just got a 5' KK tiller today. There is a grease fitting on one end of the tine shaft (pictured below). After 15 shots of grease I looked for some to be coming out somewhere. None was, so I put in 15 more shots.

My question is how many shots is enough? My JD mower deck blade spindles are like this too. Many shots of grease and none being pushed out anywhere. The KK instructions don't address how much is enough.

These are shipped dry, mine took most of a tube of grease when I prepped mine. Now I give it 2 - 3 pumps every few hours of use.

How could you tell when the grease reservoir was full /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Uhmmm. I quit at about 30 shots on mine... I think I'lll sink the rest of the tube in there.
FYI, King Kutter makes an awesome tiller for the money.

Glad to hear it. I just hope it breaks up the clay chunks left after middlebustin' the garden.

If you see any facings where the parts come together, you should eventually see some grease press out. As soon as you see some stop. Then grease it about every 4 hours of use and all should be fine. You might contact KK and ask them what the capacity is. John

I just got the same KK tiller a few weeks ago and found the same issue. I kept putting in grease until it backed out the grease sert. I would pump the grease gun several times and then stop to see if a little would back out the sert. I have used mine several time and it has worked great but I have mostly a sandly loam soil so good luck with the clay /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif!

About another 75 squirts, and grease started backing out of the zerk. Before your post I'd never heard about using that as a sign the grease space is full. Oh well, when it started coming back out the fitting, I stopped. After tilling a while, I put a couple more shots in and there was no seeping back through the fitting. Must have redistributed a little with use. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

It's an old trick my dad taught me on the farm several years back. Glad I could help /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
