Or Kubota mx 5100 4 and 1 bucket
And slasher
New 40,000

First tractor and will be used for a variety of uses on a semi cleared block

You really need to think a bit harder about what uses you believe that you will be needing one for. Keep in mind that you're going to find that you'll need attachments, usually several, and that these are going to run up to a fair amount. I once though a 4in1 sounded like the way to go for me, but after reading up a bit I decided that there were better alternatives (for me).

Tell the good folks here what you need to do and then sift through the responses.

Where is "Harrietville vic?" What's the environment in which a tractor is going to be operating?

So first time tractor buyer here slowly trying to get educated and using the forums and local advice.

I have 12 acre of old chestnut orchard steepish in parts
I will be mainly utilising the tractor with flail mower to clear and maintain property and general farm work.

I have been looking at kubota l4600 and then a mx5100
I have now just been offered a Rx 6010 cab with AL60 4 and one by the local dealer whose trading it
It has 500 hrs and is two years old looks in very good shape, owner is upgrading to larger tractor as he has increased his land holdings.

What should I be paying for this and what are your thoughts on the tractor and fit for purpose

I should qualify a few aspects,
The block has been let go for over 25 years now and though I have had a bobcat with mulched go through there is still a fair bit of clearing and log dragging and chopping to do,
The chestnut trees are scattered hapazardly
There is no house or any infrastructure so all this will need to be worked with the tractor.
Initially I hope to use it to perform all these duties other than side cut for house and trenches unless I can pick up a cheap back hoe attachment.
Being a rural town i thought I may also get some side jobs for extra cash.

If in a couple of years all the work is done I could then sell it if required and downsize tractor and possibly buy a zero turn mower

I was aiming for
Flail mower/mulcher
Pallet forks
Post hole digger

If there was a opportunity for a backhoe it would be awesome as we wil be trenching a fair bit of infrastructure mainly poly lines but also stormwater etc.
I was thinking of getting a machine in to do this though..

I don't know what fair price is in your area but given the choice as stated I would go with the Kioti 500 hours isn't much and the 10 Grand extra doesn't get you a better overall tractor. I myself am not big on the 4-in-1 bucket but do know a few people who are very happy with them. For me most jobs are better done with tools made for the specific task at hand. having extra remotes up front from the start can also be considered a cost savings as that will have to be paid extra for if you go new.

Finding a good used machine near you is like finding hens teeth! If used meets your needs and, as you state, is in good shape I see no reason to buy new. I don't know if you are factoring sales tax. The new one would have an additional $2800 (that's a guess of 7%) and the used won't if it's a private party (this is an assumption based on the "norm" in USA). Snap it up!

Both are solid machines with a good brand name and support behind them.

The Kioti sounds pretty good. 25% cheaper, more HP, and a cab...

Not really an apples to apples comparison.

The kioti is just an all around bigger machine. Few thousand pounds heavier....bigger tires, stronger loader and 3PH lift, etc etc. Compares alot closer to a kubota M6060 than the MX.

So you really have to decide......do you really want the bigger machine? Can you make use of it? Or is it just gonna get in its own way?

If you really want the bigger machine, but were only looking at the smaller ones due to budget.....then it may be a nice find. But I would look around and see what else is used out there.

IF a MX is really all you need, 40k new sounds high. I just bought a used MX5100 HST, loader, 4wd, ~350 hrs. Cost me 20k.
