Hey everyone, just figured I'd share with you my recent project. My neighbor and tractor buddy did a number on his BX23 backhoe bucket yesterday while digging out an old half rotted stump. Mind you after 11 or 12 years of being used and abused for digging rocks and stumps the bucket was heavily dented and the sides were wore through already but this last stump managed to break and twist the bucket pretty good. I'd say it shouldn't come apart again.

All finished up. I ended up cutting out a bunch of the worn out and bent up material and replaced it with new steel. For the amount of rocks my neighbor digs with this tractor I went ahead and welded on some wear bars to beef up the bucket for him. Im pretty sure this bucket should last another decade or so now lol.

A new set of ripper teeth and you are better than new. Those rounded off teeth would never work for grubbing out roots and stumps.

Ron

No idea if he plans to replace them but I agree, new bucket teeth and it would be a pretty mean looking bucket. That said if you had seen the size of the rocks this thing has dug up you'd understand why the teeth are so rounded off. This tractor has definitely put its time in lol.

Nice job. One comment, and I'm not picking just saying.
Wears bars should have gone the other way, theory is the strip hold dirt between them preventing wear on the actual bucket bottom. The way it is now the bottom of the bucket between the strips will wear as much as the strips.............Mike

Nice job. Nice pics.
I understand your saying he's dug a lot of rocks and here's my observation -

The outside teeth are worn away too far. It needs 2 new teeth (at least).

These teeth are rounded off and they no-longer project out past the edge of the bucket so they can no-longer provide 'clearance' for the bucket side plates in any digging work.
Now the side-plates will wear. They are not a 'working' edge, just a containment plate to keep spoil inside the scoop.
This pic of yours shows what I'm referring to - The bucket is wider than the teeth:

:2cents:

Also, Could you provide some more info on that 'Grey Plate' marked "BXPANDED" (?) in the early shots? Form, Function etc. Thanks.

I thought about welding the wear bars horizontally like you see on larger excavator buckets but chose to put them on vertically because that's how kubota welds them on to some different of their larger backhoe buckets. Not my pic but this is a BH77 I used for reference.

I absolutely agree that all three teeth should be replaced. Also that grey plate your referring to is a Bxpanded manual thumb that he bought for it. From what I've seen I'd say it works pretty good.
