Hello all I am in the market for a new scut and I am leaning towards the BX or the MF mentioned above. I stopped at a dealer the other day that sell both on the same lot so we did a side by side breakdown or differences and similarities.

So now I am looking for real world advice from owners who have had time on them

On thing I did not care for on the MF was the seat and the steering wheel, the seat has almost no suspension and the steering wheel is so big and deep its almost awkward to get in a comfortable position. Both are much better on the BX.

The MF has more pto hp and better flow rates and also has better lift capacity.

both has quick attach buckets.

60" mower decks, MF drive over, BX none drive over, not real big issue here, but was told but the dealer that the BX uses a know for height adjustment and the wheels are just for scalping prevention, where the deck on the MF uses the wheels are it primary height adjustment and the deck is meant to roll on the wheel all the time while mowing. Which is a preferred method for the deck lift supported or roller wheels?

At the end of the day the tractors are very similar and when I asked the dealer which is also the owner of the company which one he preferred if any he said for him it came down to the seat and comparability which he gave to the BX. He said the seat is like comparing a Cadillac to a pinto on the MF.

Both tractors while they use a different engine are setup similar both draw fresh air from the rear and blow hot air away from you battery on MF is under the hood and BX located behind console screen. Which is easier to maintain is a good question I would like answered when it comes to changing oil and filter, hydraulic fluids and filters and fuel filter.

So please chime in with your experiences good and bad, dont hold back, both tractors in this case as configured the same come out to a couple hundred dollars of each other.

I want to stop in and check out a JD 1025r just to see in person and how it compares and feels, but at this point looks like that model will be about 2500 more for the same options out the door.

Not sure if you ruled them out already, but KIOTI and LS make great SCUTS also. You said you were going to “ sit “ on the JD, you might want to try the others too.

I personally think the suspended deck is better, the wheels on the non suspended deck can dig in at times.

I owned a Kubota BX for 10 years and bought a JD 2025r last year, which is a larger version of a 1025r. It has the same loader and engine. The loader on a 1025r is quite a bit bigger and the tractor is larger also. The JD actually turns tighter. The JD also offers an auto connect deck. It’s a drive over style and I wouldn’t call it hands free but it’s very convenient to hook up. The Kubota has a better 3 point set up and lifts higher than the JD, this is the only disappointment on my JD.

Kubota does offer a drive over deck and a version of the auto connect but I haven’t read good things about it. I believe the drive over deck can be bought without the auto connect. Someone has done a really good comparison between a Kubota BX and a JD 1 series tractor. It’s in several parts and he covers all bases. It’s called Tractor Time With Tim. Google it and he has a lot of videos. A warning he is a fan of JD but he makes a serious effort to give a fair review of both.

Kubota makes a great tractor, it’s a really big seller for them, and they usually have a strong dealer network in most areas. I’d price out the JD, they often have some discounts. I’d also look at any other brands that are sold in your area.

Also seem to be lots of happy RK24 owners out there. If you have a Rural King with a service center close you might want to check them out.

Priced a JD optioned the same way and it is about 2k more than the BX and 2.5k more than the MF

Is that an actual quote from a dealer or just on line pricing using the manufacturer websites? Did it include the auto connect deck?

If 2k is a dealbreaker I’d go with Kubota.

Yes that was actual from local dealer,

Deck they quoted in package was the 60D 7iron mid mount side discharge

2k not a deal breaker at this point but at the same time is bring green and a JD worth 2k more?

Watch Tractor Time With Tim’s comparison and decide. When I had my BX the size of the bucket frustrated me. I’m not sure what your uses are but I use my end loader a lot more than I thought I would. I originally bought my BX without a end loader but added it about two months later. I don’t know the exact size difference but the JD bucket will hold close to twice the material.

For me the two biggest advantages of the JD are the size and strength of the loader and the auto connect deck. I’m not sure if your quote is for an auto connect or not, it’s worth every penny to me. I often left the deck on my BX when I should have removed it for loader work. Taking the deck off of aBX isn’t hard, just awkward with the PTO shaft being the hardest.

The drawback of the JD is the 3 point lift height. When I have a rear blade or a brush hog on mine it’s okay on flat ground but going up a steep hill it will want to dig in. I can get another adjustable link for my JD to help but the geometry of the Kubota is better.

For mowing the JD cuts better and I have a mulch kit on it and did on the BX also. It’s not a big difference though and not a big factor.

Both are great tractors. Either one is a good choice.

I’m looking at all 3 right now. Got quotes from all 3 with FEL, 60” mmm, front snowblower, and ballast box. The BX came in $1500 more then the JD and $1750 more then the MF. I’m leaning towards the JD as I like the drive over deck with auto connect, easy FEL disconnection and very plush ride, especially compared to the MF. That was like sitting on a board. How they think that is good is beyond me. The JD did lift more and come stock with bucket level rod, which is a option on the BX. The BX was nice, but not $1500 nice. Plus I still could not get used to the treadle pedal. Plus I can add a backhoe if I find someone trying to sell there’s later if needed. All 3 are nice, but to me, the JD gave me more bank for the buck.
