Hi fellas, I,m new here and also new to Kubota. I'm looking at a L3400 HST and also the manual shift. 16000.00 for the HST and 14700.00 for the manual shift. Also has Kubota solved the issues with the cams on the PTO on the L3400 tractors.

I'm trying to decide between the l3400 and a John Deere 3203 hydrostat and I feel like I'm beating my head against the wall. Hard decission.
I can get the Deere for 15,600.00

All 3 tractors are priced with loaders attached.

There were two issues with the L3400HST. The PTO and a jerky 3PH. The PTO problems is for the HST only. Both issues have been resolved but you need to be sure you don't get an older tractor that has not been upgraded. Be sure the dealer knows that you about this. If the tractor has a mower you can do two tests.

1. Raise and lower the mower and it should not jerk vilolently. A little bit of jerk going up is normal.

2. Engage the PTO (with mower attached) and speed the engine to about 2000 RPM. Press in the clutch and you should not hear a grinding (clicking) racket. If you do it has the old style cam.

I am very pleased with my L3400HST at 160 hours. No problems.

I asked the dealer about the PTO issues and he told me that the problem has been resolved on the new models. Both of the L3400 hyd. and man shift tractors I'm looking at are brand new 2007 models.
They dont have any attachments or mowers on the 3pt.

I may be wrong but I didn't think there was any PTO issue on the manual tractors.

If the tractor is new you should be OK. Having a good dealer is more important to me than the brand.

I'm kind of leaning towards the L3400 with the manual trans. $14,700.00 with loader sounds to me like a pretty good price.

I have a new L3400 HST and love it. The HST is worth it if your work (Play;) ) includes backing up a lot.

Most of the use will be mowing and maintaining a 400 gravel driveway.
I just need to make up my mind.:)

I purchased a L3400/w HST 28 hrs and a new loader installed 2007 model in July of this year for $14,500 out the door. If you plan on doing much loader work the manual is not what you want. I cannot give you a negative on this machine and have done some extensive loader/bushhog/finish mower and road grading. It is everything a 20 acre casual farm needs!

Can you tell me why?
Manual work. Literally. Hydrastatic is the way for my preferences (loader work and / or mowing). For the $1300 difference, there's no question, in my opinion.
