All,

I am working through options on an LX3520HSDC (deluxe cab version, not the SU cab) and am curious what thoughts everyone has on tires.

I am not sure I like the R14's. My thoughts right now are to lean towards the R4's, however I have a tangent thought on those - see below. We will be working ground with this machine at times so R1's would seem to make sense in that application. However, the OEM R1 wheel sets are quite narrow on these machines.

My tangent thought on the R4's is that we do volunteer work with a disaster response group and at some point down the road we will probably have the machine working at some disasters - doing tree work and demolition. We don't encourage any pneumatic tires on any machine, and for skid steers much prefer tracked machines, due to the puncture risk.

Are there wheel sets out there for solid/non-pneumatic tires that would fit this machine? Our dealer does not have any tire capabilities at their facility and out-sources all tire work so they are clueless on the subject. It seems to me over the years I've seen them, but I can not recall who does them?

With that tangent thought out of the way - if I went with an aftermarket R4 solid wheel/tire set then that may open the door to order with R1's from the factory. However, that goes back to the narrow tires I mentioned earlier.

What suggestions/constructive comments can others offer?

Thanks!

I don’t know what size your tires are but BTK makes the RT747 R4 tires that have a AG R1 tread pattern.

They are a radial tire vs bias ply.

Mine are 17.5/R24, so they are wide like how typical R4s are.

The tires listed in the build form online are as follows:

R1's
Front - 7-12 R1
Rear - 12.4x16 R1

R4's
Front - Titan 25x850-14 R4 STL 6BLT TL2
Rear - Titan 15-19.5 R4 STL 6BLT TL2

There are other options for R4's, one or two more others I think.

As far as I can tell, the R1's are just one option - Bridgestone Farm Service Lug in the front and Firestone Traction Field & Road TT in the rear (sizes listed above).

Considering tires are going to be considerably expensive - I am trying to wrap usable tires in the deal. However, the wild card is the solid ones - those, if they are available, would have to be third-party as the dealer doesn't offer them, period. And if that is too far of a stretch to do at the beginning then what tires I order the tractor with would have to be usable for us for a good while. That brings us probably right back to the R4's as they are going to be more versatile than the R1's, or possibly both sets of R4's and R1's then maybe go for solids later. We won't need the solids up front - just down the road, however we're looking at it now as the "total package" - and there are use-cases for the solid tires.

R1 radials for sure. Note the differences in the pictures. The narrower one is the bias ply while the wider tire is the radial.

Are those rims the same? Or are the rims wider on the radials?

They are expensive bit the Michelin Tweels may be the answer for you.

I have absolutely no use for a solid or foam filled tires.

Saw a set at my Kubota dealer the other day. I had no idea what they were for, just sitting there and they look strange.

I don't believe they are for a tractor, more for a utility vehicle or a lawnmower and I have no idea what they cost either.

I'm in 100% agreement with PTSG on R1 radials.

Furthermore, to the OP, your dealer don't do tires on Kubota tractors, none of them do actually. The tires you order are put on at the factory in Georgia I believe. All your dealer does is mount the rims to the tractor after it comes out of the metal shipping frame, or in my case with my large Kubota's, when they came out of the overseas containers. Mine were both made in Japan, not Georgia.

I do get a charge out of the new Kubota round bailers, they come with little metal wheels on them so they can be put in an overseas container, they come from Italy.

Front rims have to be wider if I recall correctly.

If you go on BKT website and choose the Agrimax RT765 tires, it will give you a chart with tire dimension and what rims it will work with. I'll still leave the link but not sure it will work well.

The OP is considering solid tires, I do not know of any solid tires available for tractors. The alternative would be the foam filled tires, myself I would never consider them for any kind of traction usage as the lack of flex and foot print negates they traction ability and any ride cushioning.

A few years ago I saw a set of them on a large tractor at a farm show. They were doing a decent job at the show but had to wonder how all the flexible links would hold up to hard pulling and the tension that would be applied. I see that they do not offer any sizes above skid steer tires at this time.
