Kubota M7040 Nuffield 465
M7040 Kubota, 220 hrs, with two remote valves.
In cold weather the valve levers cannot be moved until the tractor cab gets quite warm.
Dealer replaced one cable when tractor was new because of this problem but it did not fix problem for long.
When I remove the cables from the valve levers I can move the levers so obviously the valves are not frozen.
Does anyone have a solution?

The remotes on my 5240 are connected with linkage as opposed to cables so I'm not familiar with your set up, once they are thawed is there any way to lubricate them with a water displacing lubricant to prevent the water from freezing? Any pictures?

Here are two photos.
I guess I could try and insert a thin nozzle from a spray can of lube under the rubber seal.
A plastic panel has been removed to show the cables below the two levers.

I'm thinking you have water in your system somewhere. At work we had a NH TN70 and it did the same thing and you had to really work it, finally the cable broke as I was trying to force it, they took the tractor to the dealer, flushed the tank, had two-five gallons of water in it. Can't remember exactly, it was three years back.

You are, some how, getting water/moisture inside the cables and it freezes. I would remove both cables, bring them inside, let them dry out. Then, if possible, pull the cable out of the shield and inject a water dispersant jell or lube into the outer shield.

I had the same problem a month or so ago after washing my tractor. I do not have a cab on mine, but one of the two remote levers would freeze up when it was well below freezing. On a warmer day, I ended up moving the levers to the position that extended the spool linkage all the way out on the rear valves and sprayed pb blaster on the exposed rod outside of the rubber boot. That fixed my issues. I supposed some water got in the rubber boot and freezing to the linkage. Hope this helps.

Dave have you disconnected the cables from outside at the remote valves them selfs and try to move the valves by hand when cold. Maybe it's not in the cables and the valves are stiff until they warm up just a thought.

And if it's not the valves it has to be right at the exposed section of the cable I would roll the boots back and get some Kroil or Pb blaster in there and that should fix your problem.

I agree. I sprayed the exposed part of the plungers as well, so that could have been it for me as well. Either way, I do not have the problem anymore. :)

Thanks for the post.
I indicated in the initial post that I did remove the cables from the valves and the valves moved fine.
I agree I need to try and get something inside the cable to push out or absorb the water.
The cables are not made for tinkering with!

Dave
Sorry I misunderstood I thought you ment you disconnected from inside the cab and moved the handle lever.

I know what you mean about the rubber boot also if you have access to a syringe and needle you can fill it with kroil and stick the needle under the rubber and lube it that way.

Good luck.
