2008 AgroPlus 87
Have priced out a 2010 Kubota M7040 SUD tractor compared with a 2008 Deutz Agroplus 87. Both models are new at dealer locations with no hours and will carry full factory warranty. The prices net out as nearly the same after rebates and other features.

M7040 model is 68HP and with front loader has a lift capacity of 2,928 lbs and rear lift of 3,307 but tractor only weighs in at a base weight of 4608 lbs.

Agroplus model is 87HP and with a front loader can lift 3,850 lbs and it's rear lift is 7,900 lbs and base tractor weight comes in at 6,800 lbs.

In additon to farm work during summer would also add winter duties of providing power to a log loader trailer and moving it (6 tons) long distances, lifting pallet lumber around a sawmill for drying, truck loading, and unloading, as well as miles of brush hog work.

Anyone familar with either of these two models? The Agroplus model seems like more of a tractor for the money but I am not so familar with this Deutz-Fahr tractor while the Kubota is well supported in the area. May be that Deutz-Fahr is too big but overall footprint is not much different. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Both tractors would work for you. Which one fits you the best? Is one more comfortable to set in? Which one has the controls in a more natural location for you to reach for and operate? Has the Deutz-Fahr dealer been around for awhile, or are they a new dealership? I tend to like heavier tractors and would probably go with the Deutz Agroplus 87. It sure would not hurt you to have the higher capacities.

Just my :2cents:, good luck with your decision.

I am somewhat familiar with the Kubota M Series which are good tractors, but know absolutely nothing about the other due to lack of a good dealer.

I won't even consider a tractor without good dealer support.

Both dealers have been around for a long time but it appears the service is better with the Kubota. They are close in both size and turning radius (12.1 for M7040 vs 11.8 Agroplus). Height and width are similar but the AgroPlus is 9 inches longer with a 5" longer wheelbase. The AgroPlus has more GPM and more remotes (extra front and three in the rear) as more weight which is helpful when lifting large pallets of lumber or logs. The fact that it is a 2008 model still on the dealer lot is concerning but it is new and everything will follow the factory warranty. Leaning toward the AgroPlus given the step up but just uneasy about the Deutz-Fahr brand as compared to the Kubota. Just do not see many of the AgroPLus tractors around here. Thanks

I know we all plan to keep our tractors forever, but what are they going to be worth in a couple of years? How hard to resell?

We tried a 70 HP and moved up to an 80 HP and cost us a few bucks.

I don't know if you see all that many Deutz-Fahr tractors anywhere here in the States. :confused3: I have always thought of them as the ultra deluxe type of tractors and that there was a very small market for them. I would
definitely be considering the 2008 Deutz Agroplus 87. I'm not one that is all that concerned with local dealers. If you are a person that relies on your dealer to work on your tractor, then that is when the dealer comes into play, if not then it does not really make all that much difference.

As far as resale value, there are several ways to look at that. Each to there own when it comes to that. Just another decision that has to be made in life. ;)

Just another of my :2cents:.

The resale value on tractors doesn't enter the equation, unless you bought the wrong tractor! They are tools, designed for a job- like, say an over the road tractor, hauling freight. Many of those travel a 100,000 miles a year, and with proper maintenance can do that "forever".

But not everyone buys the right tractor or what seems like the right tractor isn't.

We tried very hard to keep our 1998 Case CX80, but the costs of repairs simply made that impossible. To say we took a bath on the trade in would be an understatement.

Most farmers here keep tractors only a few years as break downs can cost you a harvest. Some trucking companies also rotate their tractors out to keep the freight moving. Both my father and father in law owned trucking companies and tried to make them last forever, but the new owners don't.

Agreed, that is one of the reasons that experience costs so much money. There are a lot of people with very little if any experience. One way to try and not make those costly mistakes when one has little or no experience is to do a lot of research. Here in lies one of the biggest reasons to belong to TBN. So that one may learn for others experience.

interesting that the larger model deutz is priced close to the 7040. always been intrigued by deutz, but couldn't be happier w/my 8540. does deutz have a hydraulic shuttle? as mentioned, dealer/service/parts avail. are big questions. one thing that came to mind when looking at that model a while back is that there are a lot of electronics/sensors, etc on the machine for example on the tranny. hopefully electronic problems would show up under warranty....you might do a general search on google for reviews on that model. know it's bigtime in europe where it's made. my uneducated guess is that it's a lot more machine than the 7040. good luck
