Hello

I have had my B2920 for about 15 months now. It has performed well, and I have not had any problems with it.

I have read some on here about the hydrostatic whine. My tractor does make sort of a sqealing/whining sound but typically this only occurs with initial takeoff and then subsides within a few seconds. It resembles the sound that it makes when you mistakenly hit the forward pedal without taking off the parking brake.

Looking back I think it has always done this. I just had my dealer do the 50 hour service and they did not say anything was wrong. I had them change out the transmission fluid in addition to the just the filter.

Is this just a normal sound that these tractors make or should I have them look at it again?

Thanks again.

I've had several JD hydrostatics and have used some Kubota hydrostatics and they all have a whine. I've always suspected it's the sound of the hydraulic motor. I'd think you're ok unless it's a loud whine.

To much noise is made over the hydro whine! It is more prevelent when just starting movement or pulling a load.

I like it as it tells me how much the tractor is laboring in what it is doing.

The past few weeks I've been playing with excavators and small tlb's removing old concrete as well as just grading some slopes to the edge of my driveway for better run off.

During this my final grading was done with a L-39 a glideshift transmission or powershift but a clutch is also used. I probably could have done it with a sub-compact but to move the pallets of field stone that I used as edging certainly was not a sub-compact job.

The experiences that I gained with this project was at best a learning and a bit frustrating. To try to skim the topsoil with the loader to remove a couple of inches of soil was near impossible with the non-hydro drive. The hydro will let you know by the whine how much resistance you are pushing. I found that I was gouging deeper then needed although still within reason of a couple of inches although with a hydro it is much easier to do and leaves a lot less clean-up. That is probably why nearly every construction machine uses a hydro or torque converter type drive system. Yes I may be lazy not liking to hand grade but time is normally money and if nothing else even a person that is not totally used to a hydro can normally learn it faster then a gear drive!

The machines that I used during this job was a KX121 excavator with a thumb and six way blade for tearing it up concrete and getting it loaded in a dump trailer to get it out of the yard.

Thinking I was close with my final work and needing to not disturb more turf then needed the L-39 did the finish work.

I like my hydros for most home chores!
