Greetings. Anyone out there who can explain the difference(s) in these engines? Thanks in advance.

Most likely HP ratings and/or revisions made over the years. I know mine has a A1700N4 engine which is 35HP. The A1700N6 is used on the 2515 with 25HP. The A1700N3 seems to fit the 3015 model with 30 HP, although, I've seen the A1700N5 being listed for this one as well.

These engines have different fuel settings in the injection pump and may or may not have different injectors too.

Thanks, ptsg. You're probably right. Would be nice if the Factory Service Manuals (FSM) addressed the different iterations in detail but the one I have (which appears to be mostly from an "official" FSM but not sure its completeness) lists the N2 & N3 as if they are completely interchangeable (i.e. all specs seem exactly the same.) If that's the case then it shouldn't matter when someone is looking for parts, but it would be good to see it in writing that the 2 are exact matches in all respects.

You are spot on Ptsg, this is exactly the difference, while these are the same base block design - "a1700" but will have different specs depending on which unit they were powering. "N2","N3" etc.

as for your question Dpauly, regarding interchangeability, some models did have extremely similar designs and the service books will say the are interchangeable and part for part they mostly are. the differences will be from if they were mounted to cabin equipped models or open station models, from my understanding there were differences in some of the mounting points of various parts, like where the cabin frame mounts, where front axle subframes mounted etc.

Good info, Asteral. Thanks. I got another one for you (gonna make a separate post for it but will give you first crack if you're interested): I have a '20/25 Series Tractor Service Manual' put out originally by Branson but since I bought it on-line I'm not sure just how complete it is but according to Chap 1, page 26, 'General Info', '7.2 Major Specs' there is only 1 engine listed for my (2011) 3120 Branson: the A1700N2 (and that's the engine I've always THOUGHT I had.) I get my parts from the dealer I bought it new from so they always just look on the computer to get my necessary tractor info when picking up the parts (usually consumables like filters but occasionally tie rods, etc) so I've rarely if ever needed to concern myself with exact engine model OR the parts were common across several models so it didn't matter. Now here's the rub: Today I noticed (left side of engine, almost hidden behind exhaust manifold) a bar code label with (among another set of letter/numbers) 'A1500N2'. According to other info I've gleaned from various sources - in this case I think it was a Kukje site - the A1500 series engine wasn't even offered until 2018! So what do I have, the A1500N2 or the A1700N2?

yes if your engine tag is showing a1500n2 that is the model you have equipped, now just to verify this i went into the old parts lookup( provided to for the 3120r model and the engine model it lists for me is also the A1500N2-R, states it was in production between 07-26-2010 all the way up to 06/12/2012, then they made a switch to the A1700N2 model engine , the more recent version of the A1500 is something i wasn't aware of, but most likely it is a redesign of the original A1500 block being used on your model currently

Excellent research Asteral, I really appreciate it!

And other than the slight displacement delta between the A15 & A17 I'm guessing there are probably many interchangeable parts but now that I know the score I can ask my dealer all that. Thanks again.
