Tractor
Kubota L3800HST
As some may recall, when I bought my Kubota last summer there was a unacceptable delay in the delivery of the backhoe subframe. The dealer assured me that the tractors 3pt. hitch was plenty strong enough for the BrushHog 650 backhoe that was installed, and that I should not have any problems operating it without a subframe. He further added that should anything fail under normal use that he would handle it through Kubota. After 4 months of waiting, and no credible delivery date from BrushHog, I cancelled the subframe order.
Tonight I was driving a load of topsoil across my yard and BANG!, the backhoe fell to the ground. The toplink tore the backside of the differential housing right out.
I'm sure the dealer will handle this as a structural failure and repair it under warranty. I'll have him reorder the subframe and mount it when he does the repair. I hope he can loan me something in the meantime so I don't lose precious months worth of excavating/landscaping on my property.
If any TBNers have wisdom to share on how to best handle this so it goes smoothly, I would be eager to hear from you. Also, I would post some pictures (I took plenty) if someone could PM me and tell me how.
Thanks in advance!

Any chance the dealer put that great advice in writing?

Good luck,

Around February 02 there were some very helpful TBN posts on this subject. Attached is a copy of a Kubota parts manual page posted at the time. It's a shame your dealer did not recommend this upgrade. (I think my total cost was less than $100) My Kubota dealer had never seen this page before but the parts arrived within a week when I ordered them.

Believe me, I asked for it in writing, but he's been in the buisiness since they put rubber on wheels and was offended and refused. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thank you.
I have to assume that he was either unaware that an upgrade was available or felt it wasn't needed or both. However, if Kubota engineered an upgrade, does that imply that there was a known weakness in that area of the machine? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

There are several reasons to add the HD top-link bracket. Beyond adding a BH using an extra heavy attachment. Also using attachments in reverse can put added strain on top-links.
My dealer suggested the HD top-link because I had purchased a Heavy Duty Back Blade.
Here is a thread showing how the top link is installed on a B series tractor. Click Here

Just to follow up, the dealer's service manager said that they would take care of the repair under warranty and sent a flatbed to pick it up. He's also sending me a loaner of some kind tomorrow so I can continue working over the next few weeks. I hope it all stays this simple and is repaired/upgraded/returned asap. I'll keep updating as things develop. Thanks for the replies. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Happy news! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
My tractor came back today, good as new. Better, in fact, due to the new reenforcing bracket.
The sub frame is on order from BushHog, but it may be a while as they haven't procured an L2800 to use as a model. As soon as it comes in, it goes on!
I'm grateful to my dealer for not only making the repair quickly, but for loaning me an M4800 to continue working with.
Kudos to Butch and Rob at Erb and Henry Kubota, New Berlinville, Pa. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Congrats on a great dealer to take care of your situation! Even though we all on TBN would want everything taken care of under warranty, there are times it doesn't happen. I am blessed with a local dealer that has treated me the same! And I didn't even buy from him - didn't live anywhere close to here when the tractor was purchased.

Coincidentally there is an m4800 at a local dealer right now with the top link tore out. Customer backed a hay rake into a stump. Not under warranty.
