2013 Kubota L3200 4WD Manual Trans
So, I went to my friendly Kubota dealer and bought a secondary (inner) air filter, since I noticed that mine did not have one and it was time to replace the primary. I installed the inner filter with the end with the hole into the canister/housing and then the primary over it and clamped
the housing lid down. Everything seemed like it was right. I started it up and went idling along but when I put some load on it like going up a slight incline and gave it some fuel/gas the engine started sputtering and white/black smoke came out of the exhaust. At first I was surprised/confused. What the **** could it be? Then I thought ...the inner air filter. I removed it and the tractor ran fine. I called a couple of Kubota dealers and they sorta knew /did not know of this problem. One guy told me that some of the L3200's it worked in and some it did not, something to do with the configuration of the housing.
Anyway, so here I am...hoping one of you experts can advise/ tell me what is up.

Note:
I have had this tractor since it was new (2013) it is 5 yrs old with only an easy 200 hrs on it.
It came with no inner filter. I did not notice it until I decided it was time to replace the primary air filter and the operator manual called/showed the inner filter. Thanks.

Steve

My L3200 didnt come with an inner filter either. I noticed comments about the inner filter in the manual too. Thought about getting one, but never did.

Black smoke is sunburnt fuel comming out the pipe. So as you've already figured out adding that inner filter is starving it for air. The easy fix is to put that inner filter on a shelf & forget about it. Or you could figure out how its choking your machine & resolve that restriction.

My L4200, which I purchased new back in 1997 also came without the inner filter. The manual shows two different air filter configurations, one with and one without. The tractor is still running strong today without ever seeing an inner air filter although I can understand the secondary air filter would be an extra measure of protection.

They don't come with an inner filter (my previous Kubota did). I'd have a hard time believing it can restrict the flow that much to be noticeable, but sounds like it sure did.

My L3200 did not come with an inner filter either.

When I asked the dealer's mechanic about it, I was told NOT to use one as they are now set to not have but the outer filter and it would not run right with it.
