Kubota L3830HST
I just had my new L3830HST delivered on Tuesday. At this point it just has some front weights on it in anticipation of a Brush Hog 285 rotary cutter to show up in a week or two. I took it for a little cruise around the property and was generally impressed with the R4's, although I did manage to get all four wheels spinning in some wet soil on a slope. I paid $16,995 for just the tractor with R4s.

I know everyone will say I should have gotten the FEL, but it's in the five year plan. For the next three or four years, all I'll be doing is clearing brush on my 52 acres (no house, no barn, not even a driveway to maintain yet).

Given that I won't have a barn up until next year, what is the best way to protect the tractor over the winter? Should I cover it with a tarp or just leave it out in the open?

Reading all of the old posts both in this discussion group and others really helped me make what I hope was an informed purchase decision. Thanks.

I'd at least tarp it, with a good quality CANVAS tarp. Kubota Orange, if left in the weather has a tendency to fade and weather quite quickly.

Congrats on the new tractor. I would tarp it just as 5030 said. I would make sure that the tarp was tight so that it wouldn't rub the paint when the wind blew. When it rubs it can work like sand paper on the painted finish.

I was more concerned with security on some raw land with no one around, but it also works for weather protection -- I bought a cargo container. 20' box would handle yours. They're water tight and great for security (4 locks on doors). They're 8' wide and 8' 6" tall. If you just need it for a year, could probably sell it for what you give for it after a year.

Congratulations on your new Kubota tractor purchase. Most Minnesotan's would figure that a fellow from Iowa wouldn't know how to purchase the best CUT made (some green company makes tractors in Iowa), but you proved them wrong. Enjoy!

P.S. I would consider better security than a tarp. Some other Iowan might develop a liking to that tractor as well.

I keep a little green lawn tractor at the house in the suburbs to fit in. I figured no one would notice out in the country. But my neighbor across the the way drove up in his John Deere farm tractor just as the Kubota was being delivered. Asked me what was wrong with the paint.

Jay, Don't let the green scare you, I grew up on the Ia/Ill border (the greens home turf) and I am a happy owner of my second orange tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Gene:

How are you doing with the dealer in Coldwater? I was out a Planet Powersports and drove by. They have a lot of 'bota's on the lot. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
