Hi everyone, I just purchased a new L3830 HST, I use a 72" bushog mower on it to mow around my lake and other property. My question is; what is the fuel consumption rate on these tractors? I have mowed about 11 hours with this tractor so it is a brand new engine and I am using just a little over 1 gallon/hour, which I think is great. What do the rest of you get with this type of tractor? How do the 3 cylinder 3830's compare to the 4 cylinder 4330's as far as fuel consumption? Thanks in advance for you help.

Your fuel consumption is in the ball park of many of the compacts, regardless of size or manufactuer. They seem to be about 1 gallon an hour. HST will use more fuel then a manual/shuttle transmission. I don't think the fuel use is much of an issue for most of us. Now if you were going 8 to 11 hours everyday, that might be a different story. I also found that when mowing with my L3830 HST, I used the most fuel or about a tank per 10 hours. I think the tank is about 10 gallons. For loader work, I went further. I mow at about 2300 RPM in medium range.

I need to fill the L5030 with diesel, use the trip function on the hour meter, and get an actual number to say for sure, but it seems to be right at 1 gallon per hour also (running a 6 ft., 1140 lb. cutter in thick, tall grass). The BX uses about 1/2 that, but considering the difference in size and power, I was expecting the 5030 to use more fuel than it does, so I am very pleased! :)

Yeah, about 1 gal per hour meter hour. It will only register 1 watch hour if you run it at PTO speed for 1 hour. If you "over speed" it will clock faster and if you "under speed" it will clock slower. I get right at 1 gal per watch hour cutting at PTO speed, but get ~.7 gal per watch hour using the FEL at 1800-2000 rpms. However, both give about 1 gph by the hour meter. I just get more seat time using the FEL~!

Gotta luv them diesels!
