My tractor is about 2 hours drive from my home and I am ready to do the 50 hour service. I have bought the fluids and filters and read the manual, but I don't know what tools I will need. Does anyone have a list of tools, wrench sizes, etc.?

Also, the UDT is in 5 gallon buckets. What will I need to use to get it from the buckets to the tractor? I guess I'll need a funnel, but what else?

Any advice from someone who has done this will be appreciated.

I just did my NH TN 70A. I had no clue as to what I needed. So, I bought 3 different funnels. Long one, short one and medium size. Tools, I just guessed and bought one size bigger and smaller. I bought 15 gallons of hydro fluid (needed 13 gallons). I am so glad I bought 15! I then bought every filter from www.messicks.com. Then, nice level piece of ground. And a breaker bar. some of those nuts were on tight. I made sure that each socket fit perfectly. Nothing loose and sloppy as the result would be a rounded nut and nowhere to go but to the dealer for a new nut. Finally, I was not in any hurry. I did oil and filter one day, then came back the next day and did antifreeze. Then greased everything. Then I did the hydro filter and fluids. I made sure I could fill the part before I drained anything. I also used a trouble light. I also wore glasses so no fluids would get into my eyes. Or dirt.

Bottom line, take it easy, take your time and don't cut corners. The nice thing is that when you do it yourself, you don't have to hurry.

Some of the items you will need are 19mm wrench for oil pan nuts (don't remember the other sizes), filter wrench, 3 drain pans to catch hydro/trans fluid, long neck funnel (the ROPS cross bar really gets in the way) (it helps to have a second person to hold the funnel).

I suggest that next time you buy 2.5 gallon vs 5 gallon jugs. Simply easier to handle. I can pour directly from a 2.5 without slopping but not a 5 gallon container, primarily because of the weight.

That is all I can think of righht now.

For hydraulic/trans fluid, wire or tie your funnel to rops or something on the back of the tractor.
I fit a piece of clear tubing over the end of my funnel and ran it to the fill hole.
Pull the dip-stick out to allow air to escape when filling - I learned the hard way!
You might want to get a hand pump that fits your 5 gal bucket hole rather than trying to pour from a 5 gal bucket? TSC has them.
Good luck.

I have a L3130 HST. Here's what I needed for my Grand L and your L3830 GST might be similar:
14mm socket, final drive drain plugs,
24mm socket, transmission drain plug,
10mm hex socket (recessed allen hex) drain plug
front axle drain plug???cant recall the size
lots of tie wraps
flashlight
3 ea 5 gal plastic buckets
3 ea 5 gal plastic bucket lids, get the ones w/ rubber seal
1 ea 2-1/2 gal ordinary oil drain pan
couple of adjustable wrenches
torque wrench, to check the wheel bolts
1/2" metric socket set
kerosene or diesel fuel to clean the fuel filter bowl
all the replacement parts, such as hyd filter, trans filter, engine oil filter,
couple of rolls of paper towels
hand cleaner type towels
tire pressure gauge

I used three, new five gallon buckets with rubber seal lids. I drained the hyd oil into each bucket and hammered on a lid using a rubber mallet. The 5 gal bucket fits perfectly under the tractor drain plugs, including the final drive drain plugs. The front axle is a little tricky. Use a 2-1/2 gallon oil drain pan for that.

Have two or three funnels on hand.
1. engine fill, std quart oil size
2. transmission fill, long neck, fasten to the ROPS w/tie wraps,
3. front axle, use a smaller funnel w/ long spout

Couple tips:
a. lower the 3 pt arms to get the correct transmission fluid level, it does make a difference
b. take off the filters AFTER you drain the engine and the transmission, you'll get a bath or have a mess if you do the filters first,
c. when filling the front axle, wait up to 15 minutes to get the level correct, since it takes a while for the fresh oil to level out in the axle

Lastly, I used a short step ladder (3 ft) and poured the hyd fluid right out of the 5 gal bucket into the funnel. Just make sure your funnel is secured with tie wraps.

I know you do NOT have a hydrostat transmission, but maybe this will give you a general idea.
good luck

I found i needed a strap filter wrench to get[I think] the engine filter off on the 3130.

Thanks to all for the input. I'm off to do the job today. I'll post the results.

By time you read this the job will be done, but for the next time or the next guy.

I would second the 2 1/2 gallon buckets instead of the 5 gallon buckets. They will cost just a bit more but much easier to handle and pour from.

The entire job took about 4 hours and went relatively smoothly.

Thanks to some tips from forum members, I was prepared for the UDT ordeal. I drained into two 2-gallon buckets, switching quicklly from one to the other, and emptying the nearly full one into one of two 5-gallon buckets I had. It worked pretty well with very little spillage.

I used a long neck funnel with a 9-inch rubber tube extension to fill the tractor with new UDT. I poured the UDT from the 5-gallon buckets it came in into a three gallon bucket with a molded-in pouring spout and then poured from there into the funnel. This allowed me to get by with hoisting only about two gallons at a time as I poured into the funnel; it was also easier to control the flow than it would have been with 5-gallon buckets.

All the used oil was collected and delivered to a local gas station for recycling.

The tools required were 14mm socket, 22mm socket, 24 mm socket, 27mm socket, plus a oil filter wrench (which was absolutely necessary to remove the factory filters.)

The engine oil and front axle oil changes were also pretty smooth, although it's a little difficult catching the front axle oil as it discharges.

So the 50-hour service is complete. Unfortunately, after the service, I damaged the rubber bushings on the steering arms and will have to replace those, but that's a different post.

Thanks again to all of you who helped.
