All,

I have a 2004 L3830 GST with a LA723 FEL. I need to know how much weight each tire (or front and rear) exerts on the ground while at rest.

My tires are filled, but I can add that to the rear total.

Reason I ask is trailer based. I currently have an 18+2 trailer and it fits perfectly, but I want a dump trailer that I can fit the tractor in. An 18' dump puts me in gooseneck territory and I don't have a GN and don't want to get one, so I'm tied to a 16 footer. I want to try and estimate how well a 16' dump trailer would be balanced with my tractor.

I have the weight of the tractor with the R4 tires, loader, etc, just have no idea how it's distributed. 60/40 rear/front without a loader I've heard....does this mean 50/50 with a loader?

The only true way would be on a scale.I don't believe its going to fit and be balanced on any 16ft.trailer.

The front is a Lot More than 20% heavier with a loader...
Without loaded tires in the rear, the back end has very little weight...

What you are interested in is the Center of Gravity ... easy to determine, using a utility pole laying on the ground, and a teeter plank for the left & right wheels to drive up & over. The point that the front and rear are balanced is the CG... Use that location when loading in your trailer... KennyV

that's what I'm afraid of. Now on my 18+2 I put the centerline of the rear axle directly b/t the 2 trailer axles, but that puts alot of tongue weight on the truck. On a 16' I'd be 2' behind the center of trailer axles, but don't wanna overload the rear trailer axle or rear axle tires.

I get my axle weights from the local grain depot or at the truckstop. At the grain depot, they have a long flat pad, and the scale is only part of it. I can pull up and weigh front axle, pull forward and weigh both axles, the pull forward some more and weigh rear axle. At truckstop they have at least 3 seperate weighing pads. As long as your wheel base hits their pads, this would work too. I don't think anyone can give you the answer you are asking, you are going to have to do it yourself. Philip.

I have no issue doing it myself, just didn't know if this info was somewhere buried in some Master Kubota Service Manual or something. Good idea on teh weighing though, got a co-op with scales not too far from me. Thanks!!

I have never seen it in the specs, there would be allot of variables. Loader size, position (height) of loader, size and type of bucket, type of tire, rear implement or counter weight, etc. I have often been curious about this too, please share your results. I tend to think tractor alone would be 60F/40R, with loader 75F/25R. I always weigh my truck, truck and trailer, loaded, unloaded, just for interesting information, sometimes you learn something. I currently have a 16' + 2' trailer, and I can barely fit my tractor, fel and implement on it. In fact, the fel bucket goes over the front of the trailer a little bit. I don't think you could do it with a 16' dump trailer, but hey, you got the tape measure and your tractor. Good luck. Philip.

so on the 16' dump I'm looking at from the inside of the dump box to the CL (centerline) of the REAR trailer axle is 11'-6". If I curl my forks from the front of the forks to the tractor rear axle CL is 11'-0".

If the trailer is a 14k or 12k would this overload the rear axle/ bee too much weight on the rear axle tires you think?

I am going to assume that your dump trailer has two 6000 pound axles, same as my trailer. It is going to be very hard to overload two 6000 pound axles. What is the distance from the hitch (ball seat) to the axle center? This is usually a long distance. My problem is making sure load is spread out correctly so I do not have too much tongue weight on my truck. I have never had to worry about over loading the axles. Philip.
