Does anyone really use the display for setting the PTO rpm on a "grand" series? Should one use it?

I did when using my Rear finish mower on my L3240.

I use it since I get the best cut from my flail mower at the rated rpm. It not a finish cut mower but acceptable if I run it at speed, fewer straggler stalks. This is when cutting grass, in light brush it is not as critical.

The same seems to apply when using the Bush Hog (which I rarely do since getting the flail).

if nothing else, you can make sure you don't overspeed whatever you are running.

I use it quite a bit. I find standard prill fertilizer spreads just right @ 325 rpm.

I have a L3130 HST and use the PTO RPM reading all the time when using my rear brush mower. It is designed to operate at 540 PTO RPM, and I set my throttle accordingly.

Also, with the digital reading, you can tell how much the mower shows down when encountering high, thick grass for example.

Ditto what everone else has said-
I like to set me fertilizer spreader and bush hog to 540RPM so they run at optimum speed.
It also shows you how much you are bogging down when you bush hog up a hill. I ease up on the HST pedal up hill to let the RPM rise back closer to 540. -Mike
