I have made up my mind to purchase a three pt blower for my L3901. Can you suggest a model or at least a working width that would match up well with my machine? Thanks in advance.

I have the same tractor as you and use a Pronovost 64". Very pleased with the unit, and it is perfect for my needs. Whatever units you look at, make sure it is wide enough to cover your tire width.

I used an old Woods 48" blower behind my B7100 and regretted not getting something wider. The 48 Woods was the same as the tractor tire width and it did a sloppy job. I bought a Woods SS74" blower to use with my 60" wide L3430 which worked very well. I just traded the L3430 for a MX5800 which has a 72" track width. Not sure how the 74" will work with the wider machine but I guess I'll find out in the next month or so.

In your case, If you have the tire width set at the 55" minimum on you L3901, I would go with at least a 60" blower. A smarter choice would be to do what Deerslayer did and go with a 64". The dealer tells me you should always go with the widest blower the HP of your tractor can handle. I tell him I'll go with the widest one I can afford.

Another point to keep in mind is the ability to reach the discharge chute direction control from the tractor seat. There is nothing worse than having to get off the tractor in deep snow to change the chute direction.

Is your tractor a gear model or hydrostatic? If it's hydrostatic, you can use any blower that you can pick up. If it's gear, you will be more limited.

I am running a 74" on my L3240 with no problems at all.

Similar opinion as others.... My previous L3410 HST performed well with a 72" blower, and was a good match track width wise. I'm using the same blower on my new L4060 hstc and it will be great staying warm and dry this winter. With an open station tractor invest in some quality clothing.
Back in 2010 I ended up buying a Lucknow snowblower, Canadian made, very heavy duty. The other manufacturer that made my short list was Pronovost, but at the time they seemed to cater to larger tractors. Definitely worth checking out their current line. The majority of other blowers I looked at were likely fine for homeowner use, but seemed too light duty for commercial use.

I have the same machine with 6 less HP, a L3200. I got a used 60" made by an outfit in Canada now out of business (LHC or some other set of 3 letters I think). it matches my 60" track (R4s are non adjustable on economy machines). You can't put rear tire chains on our machines with R4 tires unless you get wheel spacers. If you might need chains, plan on wheel spacers & ending up with a 66" track or something. I have no doubt my machine would lift & run a 72" just fine.

I have a HST, so speed & power matching isn't a problem. You may have issues finding the right speed in reverse on a gear machine, but I don't know what speeds it has. motownbrowne is right, if you can lift it you can spin it & with a HST you can always find the right speed to keep it spining. Keep in mind you'll need to lift it & a couple hundred lbs of snow packed in behind the auger & caked all over. So if you are close on lifting it dry, it might not lift in use.

I'm upgrading to a cabbed L4060 (66" track minimum) so my 60" blower is either getting some wings on the sides, or more likely replaced with a 72" or so.

I would also recommend that you consider installing rear work lights if you do not already have them. I did not have them on my old tractor, but added them on my new one. Cannot believe I got along without them for so long. As I have to move snow at a time that does not conflict with work, I often find myself out there at night. Huge benefit in illuminating the area one is backing into.
