Just picked up a used 2015 L3901 with 10 hrs on it. :dance1: (There is a story.)
Three questions:
1. During my first 6 hours of use I noticed the transmission would make a louder and more harsh whining noise when backing up. This is above the normal HST sound when moving forward. I searched the forums before posting and noticed that the 3301 and 3901 can have this characteristic but it seems to be hit and miss. I am checking with the dealer to see if all applicable tech bulletins have been applied. It is appreciably louder in reverse than forward and not sure what is normal and what is not.
2. During reverse there is a tinny rattling sound. Kind of like a thin shield is loose somewhere. Location seems to be just forward of the operator station or the rear of the engine compartment area. Definitely down lower in the chassis. It seems to be more prominent when starting or under a load although that is just a feeling at this point. It has not been verified but I can reproduce it when starting to move. This does not occur when going forward.
3. Finally I noticed a ticking noise in the transmission proportional to the engine RPM. It would go away if the clutch was depressed. Otherwise it could be heard if in 2WD, 4WD, in L, M, or H range or neutral. My initial 6 hours did not include any ground engaging equipment so the PTO was not used. I came back to check it the next day and the sound no longer occurs nor have I been able to reproduce it.
All operations were at or below 1900 RPM. So, two whines (plus the new owner) and a non-existent tic. Any insights will be appreciated.
Thanks.
