This got no traction over on Orangetractor talks...appreciate any ideas.
I was doing my 100 hour service and went to start the tractor and it would not start....the dash showed "Open" (I think). Anyway after messing around I happened to jiggle the PTO lever which was already in the Off position and the word on the dash went away and I could start the tractor...if I jiggled the lever it would cause tractor to die as if the PTO was engaged. Jiggle quick enough and it would start running again (similar to getting up while tractor is moving or PTO is actually engaged and then sitting again).

Problem is how do I adjust this? Is it by adjusting the lever to make it sit tight against the metal stop and safety switch or something else? If it is adjusting the lever...it appears that I would need to remove the seat belt....and it is really torqued on there...tried to get it off and the metal bar it is mounted on moves with the torque so you can not get it to loosen. Ideas?

I would try to move the switch closer to the lever

I have a fairly new L3301 and have the same problem. If I hold the pto lever in the rear(disengaged) position I don’t have any problems. I’m sure there is a simple adjustment to fix but I haven’t had time to look at it. My lever has too much play in it which will intermittently tell the tractor that the pto is engaged when it isn’t.

your problem is somewhat different and could be solved with a hook to hold it in place

Thanks. I do have a little play in the lever and wondered about trying to adjust the tightness so it fits snug against the off stop. I might be able to unscrew the safety switch and turn it clockwise so it sets against the lever thus avoiding lever adjustment. With all of this the seatbelt housing is in the way. I think the safety switch is held with a special screw which would require a special tool?

Sort of related, but my 2501 is doing the same thing. The switch seems to be operating correctly, but my shift cable seems to be sticking a little. It sticks when engaged, whether running or not. Makes starting or just disengaging the PTO a pain. Gonna try some WD40 under the little rubber boot.

On mine, it seemed the PTO shift shaft seal going into the case was dry and sticking.

I figured this out when disconnect the cable to lube it. The problem persisted.

So I cleaned all the grass and dirt away and sprayed some PB on the seal and worked the lever.

Made a huge difference. Now when I grease the loader, I hit the PTO shift shaft with some PB.

FYI, the PTO shift shaft is not easy to access.

Once again the Kubota forum on tractorbynet saved my bacon. The PTO shift lever on my L2501 was not functioning. The PTO would not disengage. Using the information in Wagne223's post, I got on my creeper, went under the tractor, and lubricated the spring and lever where the shaft goes into the transmission case. I also used PB Blaster penetrating oil. Don't use WD40 as it is a solvent only and not a lubricant. There is good access and visibility from under the tractor, but no access from up top.

Glad I could be of help!

To follow up, I still hit that shaft with PB every time I lube the loader (usually every 10 to 15 hours ) and I have not had any issues with the PTO staying engaged.
