L5240 (3) PTO switch is failing to disengage.

Like the title says, I have a PTO switch that sometimes acts as though it's stuck "on". I can tap it and it moves to the off position and the dash light goes out but the PTO keeps operating. This doesn't happen every time I use it and the PTO usually turns off on it's own after a minute of two. It seems that the longer that I operated the PTO (flail / snowblower) the more apt that it is to behave this way.
Sometimes I have to shut the tractor off completely; that has always reset the switch.

Maybe the PTO solenoid is slow to respond/sticking.

my 4740 does that too but only after mowing (heavy constant load in the heat of summer. ) never happened with the snow blower. my pressure to the pto clutch was really low and I think the clutch may have slipped too much and is starting to seize when used in high load situations.

start by checking the pto clutch pressure there is a revision to the manual if you have an HST model they bumped up the pressure to compensate for changes in pressure caused by the transmission. there are two 1/8 npt ports you can use to check the pressure I had a hose made so it was easier to read the gauge. it should be in the 300-400 psi range it isn't high pressure. I can check the exact figures when I get home tonight.
