LA723 loader on L3830 performance?

I usually run mine near idle. I rev the engine when going from place to place, but when operating the loader I have to remind myself to rev it a little to make the loader work faster, or when I am picking up something heavy, to get the pressure up.

If I am using the tractor and FEL to work (moving dirt, snowplowing, etc), the engine RPM's are set at 2500-2700. The Grand L series is made to work. Maximum productivity comes when you "open her up".

More or less. I find that there is a point of diminshing returns. That RPM where no matter how much more gas (petrol for you British types) you give it, it's just not going to help. I find that area to be somewhere in the 2300 to 2500 RPM, after that it's just noise.

I've got an L3130 w/ LA 723 FEL. It will lift the rear tires (calcium filled) along with 65" box blade off the ground if I lift dead center....about 1800-2000 RPM usually. The dealer did adjust the relief pressure up from ~2400 PSI. They added a small shim (sounds more exact than 'dropping in an old washer') to the main hydraulic relief valve. Boosted it to ~2600 psi. Not sure if the L3830 frame/engine would add that much extra weight to lift over an L3130.

One positive out of this....get the finess thing down now and then think what you can do if you ever do get more lift capability down the line. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Seriously, the pressure check is quick and simply. It's be nice to know what the pressure is. If it's fine (2630 PSI max) then you can start scheming on the L4330 w/LA853 FEL.

One more thing...the quick attach extends the bucket out about 6" ??? and if it's a HD 72" bucket (as opposed to a std 66") that could take away from the rated lift capacity a bit.

Wouldn't the leverage on the tractor be the same and the force stay equal no matter the distance from the bucket? He may lose lift capacity due to the heavier bicket and longer reach but the lift force on the rear of the tractor should be the same.

My dealer turned up the pressuer on my unit because the stablizers were not lifting the rear right. Come to think of it, my loader will not lift the rear of my L48 off the ground on level surfaces no matter the bucket load. I do have the 1100 pound back hoe on it. The rated lift is 2450 at mid bucket.

Just a guess but I do think the pressure is the issue.

Gray, I did adjust the loader pressure on my old L48. It's very easy on the L48. I brought it to the spec and with no hoe on back but loaded tires, I could stick the bucket under a rock, root etc., curl the bucket and the whole rear end would come off the ground with the 1000 lb box hanging off the rear. My toothbar shows what the L48 loader could do, the teeth are misaligned. My L3830 is much easier on it.

Rat.

Hi, been a while. I never have tried the curl to lift it. It may do it. I don't recall it ever happening. But then, I am old and forget alot.

How did you do the adjustment? I may want to check it just in case. They told me they maxxed it out.

You may have read, my BH swing is jerky in one direction but not the other? Anything like that happen to you? Like I said- my memory is bad. You never had a hoe on yours. Still, any ideas?

I have worked the -____ out of it of late. I have it on a job site and have done so much with it, even finish grading around the place. I don't know what I did without it for years except suffer.

Am I right on the lever moment on the rear of the tractor being the same as long as the pressure is the same? With my thinking, if he can not raise the rear end and should be able to it is a function of the pressure and not the bucket type or reach?

How is your new machine doing?
Gray.

As I recall, it's just forward and under the deck of your right foot. The 6" or so that the QA adds to the overall loader length would surely change the loaders lift capabilities. Trying to analyze the leverage with it sitting out a little further by exagerating it in my head. If it was out 100' from the trailer, it seems it might change the moment some with regard to bucket curl.
I really did a tremendous amount of cutting and moving of dirt here at my place with the L48. A task that would have been nearly impossible with any of the L30 series. It wasn't so much the boxblading although the L48 did this so quick, it was the moving of the material. A half hour of cutting created about 2 hours of hauling. In all, it amounted to about 250 hours of tractor time. No ideas on your hoe. I have been using the L3830 quite a bit. I have a 3 year old kid now and it definitely eats into my ability to do all the tractoring I need to. I have about 260 hours on it in just over a year. My 8' Harley rake can easily work on this much lighter tractor and it is the one time the loader must be on, it's way to heavy on the rear end and pops the front off the ground. I find the L3830 to work much better for mowing while there is no surprise the L48 has much more clout in the dirt moving area. Rat.
