The MF 165 that I purchased recently came with four lights that did not work. I going through old posts back in 2011 as part of my self education, I remember seeing a post by Farmwithjunk about fender mounted lights and grounding problems. Sure enough when I checked the grounds all of them were bad. New grounding wires, a tidy up of some terrible wiring fixes from the prior owner and what do you know I have four lights that work.

I am glad you got the working. Electrical problem can be very challenging. Food for thought, probably the most challenging case I ever ran into was on a 730 John Deere diesel. It was a 24 volt system with (4) 6 volt batteries. The starter was 24 volts, but the lights and gauge were 12 volt. I learned a thing or two woruling on that tractor.

I hope you had a service manual for the JD 730, or at least a wiring diagram.
