I have received life advice from many different people from my teenage years to my early seventies. Most of the gems came from various uncles. For example that are printable:

From my Uncle Murphy when I was a teenager, "Marry a woman with two or three kids. That will save you a lot of hard work!"

From my same Uncle Murphy when he was in his eighties and I was in my fifties. This one was after we were visiting him and saw a stack of empty prune juice bottles. "The secret to a long life is to stay a little bit constipated and drink plenty of prune juice."

From my Uncle Brian when I was a teenager leaving for a date with about a dozen Aunts and Uncles sitting around the room. My dad had just told me to be home and in bed by 11:00 because we had a lot of work to do tomorrow. "He11 yeah boy, if'n you're not in bed by 11:00 just come on home."

Anyway, I thought some of you might have other bits of wisdom to pass on from older relatives.

The guy we bought our house from had a wife and three daughters and one bathroom. He said there's a back door on the garage and a 55 gallon drum that nothing grows around for a reason. :ROFLMAO:

I had a great uncle in upstate Pennsylvania who was a retired engineer for Dupont and I stayed with Aunt & Uncle a few times. I was always amazed at his creativity and one upstairs room was his complete HO gauge train set and he made everything. When opening the room door, a drawbridge raised tracks so when shutting the door you were in the middle of what looked like a miniature city.
One day in his garage he had something to work on he put on the bench which was completely clean, no tools, not even a screwdriver. Then he pointed up. Along the rafters he had everything tied with string, through a pulley across to another pulley down to a fishing lead weight. Whatever he needed, screwdriver, wrench, pliers he used then let go and it would go up out of the way.
I've never heard of or seen anything since but pretty ingenious I thought.

I seem to go back to my time in the Marines and what I learned back then.

Pain in temporary. Just keep going and get it done!!!

This is my main thought in life when working on a project. Just keep pushing on it to get it done.

We all have our cross to bear. Sometimes it's heavier than other times.

I'm where I'm at in life because of my decisions, and what I do next. Everyone else has their own issues and they have to deal with the weight of the choices they made in life or enjoy the rewards.

Let the other guy die for his country.

I never worry about other people. I'm going to work on making my life better and if they want to do the same, great, but if they want to self-destruct, create drama or make the same mistakes over and over again, that's their choice.

Just because you can say it dont mean you should - even if its true. Lots of folks never learn this one

If you have to do all of the visiting and calling to stay in touch with someone you might not really have a friendship with them.

Its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Learn to say no to people or they will take you for granted.

Play like you've got the money in the bank and gas in the tank. People can smell uncertainty

Here's one, that i tell the kids... Every time you have to decide to go blind, or catch on fire, choose catching on fire.

Wife looks at me like im crazy, but it comes up more than you think... Grinding near a fuel tank on a go cart, welding, ect. Sometimes you catch on fire, it happens. There is a reason we all learned "stop, drop, and roll" in kindergarten. Going blind, better to just die

"Help those that are willing to help themselves" was taught to me from a great instructor I had when I was a teenager. There are MANY times when I see people that are just looking for "free" stuff, but have ZERO desire to improve their own situation.

My older brother ran that point home when I was a teenager. A very fat person was running and I must have said something inappropriate. He said, "That person is trying to improve their situation."

I keep this principal in mind when I choose which charities to give to. Is the charity helping people improve their situation or are they helping to sustain a situation.
