Just so you guys know, the following issues are being worked on. There may be more, also.

1. Slow loading. We would have never attempted to run this new software on our old servers for an extended period of time, but it has handled it reasonably well. At times pages hang up and database calls take a long time. For one, we are constantly running search indexing, which is taking up a lot of processor power, and our processors are pretty old.

All problems relating to speed and page loading will be resolved when we move to our new servers. At the very latest, this will happen by the end of June. We are more than doubling our server power, and that will make for a much more enjoyable experience, free of slow-downs for at least a year or so.

2. Search. Right now there are only about 50,000 posts indexed, and we have some 900,000 more to index. It takes a long time and we have had some timeout issues.

3. Inline images/thumbnails/image settings on attachments. The settings in the admin section look correct, but it doesn't seem to be working properly so I will have to investigate more.

4. Recent messages posted links. We will be restoring the 12/24/48 links in a format as close to the old method as possible. In the mean time, the recent threads in the past 24 hours link should suffice.

5. Large/small font options. Unfortunately, this isn't as easy as adding more CSS styles through the admin section. On most forums it is, but due to the manner in which we serve advertising, we have to do some custom programming to make the new styles work in all forums.

6. Double postings and double PMs. We're going to remove duplicate records on the db, after we move to our new servers.

7. User list options and searching improvements. We're going to have a search of any profile field, and more items displayed on the user list.

8. Spell checker. We plan to add one.

9. Retrieving old favorite threads. We're going to do our best to at a minimum, get the old thread titles and match them up with your username, so you can find them easily again. We still have the data, so all hope is not gone.

10. Bringing back old smiles.

I'm sure there is more, but these are the most obvious things that haven't already been dealt with in the Change Log thread.

Muhammad,

I appreciate all the work you've done and IMHO it has gone very well with minimal downtime. As a veteran of failed patches and version upgrades, and emergency rollbacks I know full well what you faced. You obviously did your homework on this.

I spend more time on TBN than I do sleeping some days :)

Thanks for this great web site and the free exchange of ideas and opinions it provokes.

Todd

No big deal, Mike is just trying to keep everything organized. All the problems, that is. ;)

I'll add it to the list. I agree, it's not working properly, but I don't know why.

Yes, definitely an improvement over the last one. I'm not particularly fond of vB. I'm partial to SMF on the forums I run; Much faster, leaner, and has all the features of vB.... except the pay to use feature ;)

I hope with this new server you use a PHP accelerator such as eAccelerator. That alone will save a boatload for server resources.

Also, are you looking for any other system administrative help? Been doing forums, blogs, and CMS's under Linux for quite a while... Got a pretty good handle on what needs to be done to eek the performance. :)

One thing I would like to see re-added is when I leave a forum, all the post are marked as read in that forum. I know you have a button that marks everything as read, but I liked the old system where it only marked the current forum. A button that only marks the current would also be Ok.

Doesn't Forum Tools, Mark Forum Read work?

The "mark all read" is at the top of every page and marks everything as read, handy when leaving the site. But the "mark thread" is in the tools dropdown and I seem to mostly forget to use it. Out of sight, out of mind. Liked the old system where it would automark when I changed forums..
