I'm looking at a used TC29D with 7308 loader. Operating the loader produces a louder squeal then I've heard on other brands I've used. The squeal is nearly equal to the sound of the engine and pretty much drowns the engine out.

Mark,

That noise is normal on a New Holland tractor. The noise will go away once everything warms up. You can also change out the hydraulic oil to another brand and the noise will also not be there anymore. Do a search here on TBN or others may chime in here but you find the alternative. I have never changed mine because it goes away pretty quick.

That does not sound good to me. That's one **** of a squeal. My bucket squeals when I retract it but it sounds like what your saying is when you raise or lower the boom its squealing.
Maybe it just needs grease.... although.... I have tried this on my bucket & it still squeals so not sure what the answer is. Maybe thcri is right. I will have to pay more attention next time I'm doing loader work (if were talking about the same thing) & see if the sound goes away. Either I get too used to the sound or I'm having too much fun to notice after a while.

Mark, if it is your loader that is squealing (mine sometimes makes a squawk), it's most likely needing lubrication. Does it squeal both when you raise and lower the loader and/or curl the bucket? You can do a grease job to see if that helps and also use some light penetrating oil on the rams to see if those are the source of the noise.

Another thing to help identify the source is to lift the loader up high with the bucket curled all the way. Shut off the tractor's engine to reduce the noise and then lower the bucket and let it curl down under its own weight. If it squeals then, you may be able to identify where the noise is coming from and apply some lube. If it is quiet, then the noise might be from the pump or lines only under pressure. A loose, vibrating line may need to be shimmed with something to reduce vibration. High frequency vibration against a hard surface often sounds like a squeal.

Just some ideas to try... Good luck. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

EDIT: OOPS! I just noticed that you said it was a tractor you are looking at, instead of your own tractor. You probably don't want to do all the things I mentioned to someone elses tractor. You might try lowering the raised loader with the engine shut off, but the other stuff is probably a little "over the top" for a tractor you are looking at. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Also check the hydro oil level, my 33d made a lot of noise until I filled it to almost the top of the hydro dip stick full mark.

The noise occurs during all motion of the fel, including up, down, bucket curl and roll. The noise sounds like the sound a power steering pump makes when you turn the wheel all the way and hold it. I had them start two tractors for me and they both sounded the same. But both tractors have been sitting outside and it's been cold here, so maybe I should run them until they're warm and see if the noise at least diminshes. Since I haven't given them any money and they're a large reputable dealer, I know they would let me pull it inside and try some of the things that have been suggested including shutting off the engine and seeing if it's a problem with a grease fitting.
thanks

Thanks jinman,

Although you were responding to Mark's post you gave me some good ideas to follow up on to try & resolve my bucket squeal when it's being curled. Never would have thought of that but it makes sense. There would be an amount of vibration on the SS hydraulic lines which could manifest itself as a high frequency squeal if they were rubbing up against another metal surface. Excellent supposition. Can't wait to put it to the test.

IIRC, there was a service bulletin for hydraluic squeal when cold that involved changing some of the hard lines. Again, IIRC, one of the dealers here on TBN reported they had as much success switching to synthetic hydraulic fluid.
