Long vs short bed truck when pulling a gooseneck?

Here in Michigan, you can obtain a 'Recreational Doubles Endorsement' on your license that allows you to pull, for example, a fifth wheel travel trailer, plus another trailer (like a boat) hitched to the back of the fifth wheel.

It also applies to a bumper pull outfit.

There are some really long outfits plying the roads up here.......:)

Everytime I see one, I allow extra room. Considering the average driver is fairly inattentive, I oftentimes wonder if, they actually realize the length or have mirrors adjusted properly to actually see and judge the end of the second trailer......

For that, you have to do like my brother did with his F550, only he went with 11' plus the over cab part.

That's an impressive setup!

Exactly!

Another thing about short beds is that the fuel tank capacity is usually less than a long bed. My F-250 LB has a 38-gallon tank. As I recall the SB has a 29-gallon tank. Even at 13MPG unloaded, my LB has 117-miles more range than a comparable SB.

If I had my way, I'd like a 10' bed.

Good decision, Long bed will serve you very well.

I changed out my 38 gal tank for a 57 gallon transfer flow tank, and love the extended range.

Like these? Ford pickup replacement tanks

If I was flush with bucks I'd like to have one. Are they deeper than OEM units? If so I'd be a bit concerned about ground clearance if it was a significant amount.

That's the one. They do sit around 2" lower than the stock setup. To negate this, I added 2" coil extenders up front, and added an extra spring in the rear pack along with air bags. Went up 2" with no issues. Shopped round a bit and saved a few hundred $$$. Put it in myself with only minor cussing.

I haven't seen that very often, but every once in awhile I'll see one with a boat or a golf cart behind a travel trailer. If it were me, I'd be concerned that a trailer might have a flat and I wouldn't know it.

I've seen a few around...and always wondered how hard it is to back them up...
