2004 Kubota L2800DT
Hi!

I am looking at buying a used tractor. This is my first tractor, so I am looking for a little help on if this is a good deal or not.

It's a 2004 Kubota L2800DT (4WD) (29HP) with a front loader. The tractor also comes with a 5' tiller, 5' blade, chain harrow, and a ditcher (kind of looks like a plow off to the side).

He is asking $14,500 for the whole deal. The tractor is in great shape with 400 hours.

The price seems fair to me, not a great deal, but not a bad deal either, but then again I am pretty excited about getting it

Does anyone have any experience pricing this type of tractor?

I really appreciate the help!!

We purchased a L3000 DT with FEL with 1000hrs last fall for $9500.Very nice all around tractor for sure.
Your price doesn't seem too bad for what's included....depends on the quality of the included implements.
Tiller/rear blade, brand?,Heavy duty ect.Lots of differences in tillers and rear blades.
What type of tires(AG or Industrial?) and do they suit your conditions?Does he have service records?
I would offer $13,000.Doesn't hurt to try.

A 29 horse tractor with 400 hours, front end loader and some attachments for $14000.00 sounds good to me.

Check out the three point hitch some are notorious for shakeing. In other words not operateing smoothly . Make sure of course there is an implement attached to it. The deal sounds decent but I too would offer $13000 just to feel them out.

I have the older brother of that tractor like count less others here (L3400 DT). I really like mine .

You could also navigate over to Tractorhouse.com and get a feel for prices. Keep in mind prices per region vary and they are throwing in attachments. BTW a 5' blade on that tractor when angled off will work at best minimally.

Like mentioned above , service done on the tractor , oil changes , hyd. fluid changes , antifreeze , grease etc. etc . . Was it kept under cover may help also , reason for selling . Look at the 3 pt. hitch and fel bucket , all these things can tell a story . With only 400 hrs. tires should be good shape . Price depends on many factors ,where this is your first tractor try and get someone with tractor knowledge to look at it with you. If the tiller is 10 yrs. old it could be on it's last leg or in great shape .

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the advice. I am heading over later today to take a look at it. I made notes and did a lot of reading today on things to look for.

I buy and sell equipment and one thing that helps you sell is to put a lot of stuff with it. break down the cost of each item and also is this something you would want or use look at tractor sale sites and see what they are asking remember the price asked is not always what it sells for. good luck

Prices are very reigional. But seems high for my area.

If the tiller is in good shape....$1000. Everything else...$500

Leaves you paying $13000 for the tractor/loader. Probably not bad if it was HST.
But a few grand too high IMO

2004 model (most likely) has a *really* jerky hitch if you raise the 3ph slow and gradually... make sure you can live with it. Price a tad on the high side but offset with attachments... check the tiller out for slop - lot of rocks in NM. ;) Let us know how it goes...

Make sure you check out the PTO since there have been problems with running a tiller with the old original cams. I quit using my tiller since it started to skip... :2cents:

So I pulled the trigger yesterday. I was able to talk him down $500, not as much as I wanted but everything is in great shape. I think it was a fair deal, not a great deal, but fair. (at least that is what I am telling myself!)

I did the service on the tractor today; changed the engine oil, tranny/hydraulic fluid, air filter, fuel filter, flushed the coolant and lubricated the grease fittings. I have to say I am really impressed with how much oil is involved with a tractor!

The tiller is in great shape, the blades are not beat up and he kept the gears greased well.

I had a chance to play with the tiller and the PTO seems solid. I have to agree the 3ph is a bit jerky, but after playing with it a bit I don't mind it that much. I do wish it was a bit smother.

The only issue I have run across is after the tractor runs a bit and I shut it off, it can be a little touchy to start. Meaning I have to fidget with the clutch and the parking break lock to get the engine to turn over. I'm guessing one of the safety switches is flakey after it warms up a bit. I'll play with that tomorrow.

I have to admit so far owing a tractor is 10x cooler then I imagined!!!!

Thanks again for all the help!

You bought it before I had a chance to say anything, but I think you'll like it. I bought mine last year and have enjoyed it. You will find more uses for the FEL than you imagined. Best of luck.

Another thing to check is the front axle oil... even from the dealer, mine was a quart low. Welcome to the club and Congrats!!!

Just finding a good used Kubota is half the battle. 400 hours its just getting broke in. $13,500.00 is a good deal and with the cost of the new ones jumping 15-20% on the pollution standards, these tractors will hold their value.
