I'm shopping for a tractor to maintain our 150 property. We have about 1/2 mile of gravel drive on a good slope, 70 wooded acres also on a fairly steep slope, and 100 acres of fields presently being cut and tended by a neighbor farmer.

We are building our home on the site this year and need a machine for brush hogging, finish mowing, plowing and snow removal, work in the woods, etc.

I went to Burt Young Kubota dealer today in Olean, NY and looked at a used 2009 Kubota L3400HST (34hp) and a 2006 Cub Cadet 7532 (32hp). The Cub is around 8K and the Kubota 14K. They both are being prepped for sale. The Cub is a Mitsubishi.

Obviously I'd like the Kubota and the Cub is much less $ up front. The dealer says he likes the Mitsubishi built Cubs and thinks it might work well for us.

Opinions?

Welcome to TBN!!! I'd say the Kubota, but I may be biased...

Welcome to TBN.

A 32 HP tractor might be a bit smallish for 150 acres. are you looking to cut the 100 acres yourself with your new tractor? That could be a big job for the 6' rotary cutter that size tractor can probably handle.

I like Kubotas, don't know anything about Cub Cadet.

Need a little background.

Are you new to tractors??? Or are you familiar with sizes and capabilities???

How much and how often do yo plan on bushhogging??

I agree that both of those seem a little smallish for 150 acres of land.

Best way to size up a tractor is to size up the implements you want.

How big of a rotary cutter do you want??? How big of a blade or blower for snow removal??? How much FEL lift capacity do you want/need? Are you limited on weight because you have plans of trailering the tractor from time to time???

Good questions all. My neighbor, a meat cattle farmer, cuts, bales and uses the material from the fields that get cut for his operation. He, of course, has a full range of Ford tractors for his operation. My needs are not to cut the big fields, of which he cuts about 70%, a little more each year, as before our ownership some of the fields were untended for years.

I need snow removal when the Chevy K1500 needs help moving snowbanks, some finish mowing for yard and eventually, a grass runway, brush hogging some trails, work in the trees pulling logs, trailering cut wood, general use.

So I need a machine to compliment the big implements that do the big cutting of the fields. I'll be working with my neighbor learning his machines and hopefully sharing in the farm work, with his machines on our lot.

It sure is fun looking at tractors! I am a newbie to trators.

This is the part that worries me.

What do you mean by this??? Do you mean you want a tractor big enough to handle his equipment?? If he is running hay balers and the like, both tractors you mentioned are WAY TOO small.

BUT on the flip side, you mentioned finish mowing. And personally I wouldn't want to go any bigger if that is in your plans as well.

Welcome to TBN!

I own a Cub 7532 and absolutely love it. Used it a LOT last summer digging out a bank for a garage, digging trenches, moving lots of material, etc.
I've got several pics of it, in "projects" - "breaking into the bank"

My Dad has a JD 4310 and while a nice machine, I like the 7532 better. I'd put it up against any other tractor in that HP and size category.

Good luck!
