Tractor
still in shopping mode
hello,
looking to trade in my 08 tz25da I have a front end loader and 60 belly mower. She now has about 400 hours on it. She's in good condition. Just thinking about upgrading newer to the same thing or bigger.

What is mine worth and what should I get? I really like my new Holland and would like to stay with another.
I primarily use it to mow I have a hilly 3.5 acres. I would need to have a decent top speed.

Any input and opinions would be appreciated.
thanks.

Will a new tractor be doing the same chores as the old one or have you identified some new needs? Has the old tractor proven inadequate in any way? (Lack of power, etc?) What is a decent top speed for you?

You can possibly see what your model is selling for (rather folks asking prices) on Tractorhouse.com

If you are happy with the way your tractor is performing, why buy another. 400 hours is very little wear on a tractor.

If you want to upgrade for top speed mowing, you might want to consider a zero turn mower.

Another item you want to consider if you trade in your NH for an equal or larger tractor.

Currently your unit is not Tier 4 final compliant - its either Tier 3 or Tier 4 prelim compliant.

I think you may find that a new 2015 tractor that is the next step larger will have all the Tier 4 final compliant anti-pollution equipment.

Definitely something you want to check out and factor into your final decision.

yes, the tractor will be doing the same chores.

I mow 3.5 acres every week in the summer (I need to do that quickly). I believe my tractor is rated for 11.5 mph top speed.
I would like to go and mow a little faster.
and
Have more lift power for my loader.

I really like my New Holland, it has treated me well. I am just thinking about getting something newer before she lets me down or I need to put some money into it.

thanks.

Unless its really killing you, I would stick with the old one. 400 hours is nothing, still have a looooooong way to go with that especially if mowing was the primary task, so why cost yourself 5K (approx.) to upgrade when you don't really need to. Don't get me wrong, all of us here would jump at the chance for an upgrade, but will live with minor nits as we all have money concerns.

I would judge the tractor to be worth in the 10 to 15 thousand range, private sale. A new one will cost you about 17 to 20 thousand new. If you stick with 25HP, Tier 4 won't be an issue.

I think this is the first time we've ever advised someone NOT to buy a new tractor, usually the opposite.

You want to mow faster than 11.5mph? Have you thought of getting a ZTR mower? Most guys don't actually mow at 11.5mph on a ZTR although there are some of them that will mow that fast or faster.

If your lawn is not too cluttered with things to mow around switching to a 3 point rear discharge finish mower could speed up cut time considerably. I know we can cut much faster and still get a nice cut with the finish mower. We also can let it get a little overgrown and still not have to worry about windrows of grass as the rear discharge dosn't leave them behind, this also contributes to being able to cut a little faster as you don't get held back cutting grass that has the windrow laying on top.

I agree with the others who say that 400 hours isn't much for a good machine and unless your having problems with it or want to upgrade to a better or bigger machine its probably not penny wise to simply trade it in for an other machine the same size. The amount of cash lost in the deal would more than pay for decent zero turn and/or a rear finish mower.

If I had to trade a machine in at 400 hours I wouldn't have most of mine for more than a year and many would only last about 6 months before accumulating 400 hours.
