What are some of you using for low pressure fuel pumps?

I'd also be curious if there are any thoughts of a burn rate for an old 42hp engine - gasoline. This would be good to have for sizing the pump (too low of flow and the engine will starve).

Tractor is a 1968 International 444. I am starting in to getting it going and the fuel line is rotted and missing, except for the nub still on the metal carb nipple. I'd like to do away with the on-board tank for the time being until I can get some time to clean/restore it (if possible - with as long as its been sitting the tank may be too far gone, we'll see). All the tanks I have are what you would use with boats with motors that have fuel pumps. I converted several generators to use the same tanks - all have fuel pumps. Since they aren't gravity fed tanks they won't work to feed the tractor carb without a pump...

The pumps I use with the small engines are vacuum style run off the valve cover (inside the baffle). Those won't work for the tractor as easy. I'd like to find an electric one that won't over-pressure the float in the bowl.

Thoughts?

7 psi is the old standard max on a needle & seat in most all carbs, 3-5 psi is plenty to fuel V8 auto engines with either 5/16 or 3/8 fuel line.

Just about any of these on Amazon will work if the tractor is 12v. I bought one of the ~$10 ones for my diesel Kenbota and it works fine.

You're over thinking the flow rate. If your tractor burns more fuel than any of the "standard, readily available" electric units will pump, you can't afford to run it.

I have had good service from the sub $20 fuel pumps also.
Last year my wife's Toyota needed an electric water pump that is controlled by the ECM. Found an Amazon pump for $80, but opted for the Toyota OEM $400 pump since it was so integrated into the electronics. When I got it, it came from the same factory, with the exact manufacturer markings as the Amazon $80 pump.

Thanks for the replies.

I get the point on the "pressure" factor as opposed to "flow". I wasnt thinking "pressure", was just concerned on the fuel flow - in that a 42hp gas tractor engine will probably drink more fuel than a 20hp generator engine or 25hp outboard, for example.

Ill see what I can find on amazon cheap, and grab a spare.

Picked this up at the old Ruckels feed store in Waynesburg yesterday.
Rated for 28 gph. Like someone said if your using that much fuel you cant afford it.
I paid $10 for it. Jegs and Amazon sell them with good ratings.
Already had the cat

^^This.
Keep in mind that all the fuel your tractor burns goes through that little carb float needle and seat. Then gets pulled through jets even smaller. The ratio of air to fuel is ~14:1.
