My LT1046 came with a Kohler Courage and not the Command that was advertised. Has anyone else seen this in their Cub?

I bought my 1046 in June of 2005 and it has the 23 HP Kohler Command. My cousin bought one too and it has the Command.

I have not heard of the courage being in any of the 1046s.

I bought mine in November and I am rather upset.

I've got a request to customer service. I am wanting to hear their excuse.

I don't know much as I'm new here but looking at Kohler's website the 23 HP Command vertical shaft looks to have been dropped from the lineup, probably the reason why the newer CC's of that model have the 23 HP Courage instead. Only vertical shaft 23 HP Command still in the Kohler lineup is a Command Pro.

A quick look at specs show a nearly apples-to-apples comparison in design as far as the twins go, but ratings actually show the Courage produces 4.7 ft/lbs more torque than the Command Pro in the 23 HP versions. It might not be an issue to get upset over, the Courage doesn't look to be a cheaper engine, and on single cylinder versions it has twin cam advantage over the Commands.

That was my small amount of internet research, it would be interesting to see what CC says.

Did you buy it at a hardware store like Lowes or Tractor Supply Co or from a dealer? Just wondering if one has started being sold with a different engine from a dealer vs. store.

Cub does make changes like this on the fly if they are having supply problems from the manufacturer. Like the other guy said, I would not worry about it. It appears that the courage maybe the better engine for your application.

If you bought the machine in November it should not have the Courage motor, it should have the Command. Did you buy it early November or late?

The Courage motors are not suppose to be used throughout the 1000 series until this year (2006).

Messicks, Cub does not really make changes "on the fly" as you suggest. At least I don't think they do...but all manufacturers have to make changes at times to keep up with demand. They had made changes in the past during a mid-season production run but I always thought they did a good job of letting dealers know of the changes as well as letting customers know. A 2005 LT1046 should not have a Kohler Command motor...period.

And BTW, the Command is a much better motor than the Courage. Command is rated to last around 2000 hours, the Courage is rated to last around 750 hours...I know which one I would want!! That being said though most owners will never wear out the Courage motor or own the unit long enough to put that many hours on the clock.
