M5040,6040, 7040 steering joint
For owners of M*040 and M*060 with cab.

There is one splined slip joint in the steering shaft that owners are not greasing and locally one has seized.

It is only visible with the hood open.

Thank you for posting that hidden grease fitting location.

Just keep in mind that you need a flex hose and a helper to grease it. Not a one person job unless you are extremely flexible which, I'm not. Don't need much, 1 or 2 pumps yearly does the trick.

That's what I see in the information but I have not physically looked at a non cab tractor in this series

I'll have to check my openstation M7040SU and see. I'll assume it's the same a regular M7040 ROPS in that area.

It's not in the manual anyways, only 7 grease fittings on the tractor if you include the top link.

Thanks for posting Dave. I have a M5640 - kind of a mongrel M**40 but I'll be checking to see if I have anything like that.

It's relative to all the M's far as I know. I have both an OS and Cab model and they both have it. Not a ton of movement on those splines so frequent lube is not required. Like I said previously, one or two pumps yearly is plenty.
