M8540 or 9540

am looking at these two but would like to know how wide it is with both
18.4 30 and 16.9 34 because 78in is the widest i want to get and if any one
has the 12x12 speed chart i cant find it anywhere just 8 or 24 speed thanks

I will look at the manual and get back with you, our tractor is at another farm right now. We had ours set wide for stability on hills.

Page #2 of my Manual gives the minimum tread width of 78" for the M8540 and 79" for the M9540. These dimensions are with the "standard rear tires which for the M8540 are the 18.4x28 and for the M9540 18.4x30. Our tractor has the 18.4x30 tires.

I don't have any way to copy the speed table.

I do plan run a loader with a 8 foot snow blade and when u fully angle it is only 84in wide and some snow will role back in and i dont want to pack down with the rear tire. i drove a 7040 yesterday and 8 speeds are just not what i want for snowblowing but i don't know if it is worth the six grand to from a 8540 12 speed to 9540 dual speed 24 that 6k will pay for the snowblower

i upgraded to a 8540 (rops) 12 sp. the only real dif between that & 95 is a few hp & slightly larger ft/rear wheels. actually, the 2 different size wheels are interchangeable on the 2 models. i moved up from the 7040...too many adv. from that move to list here other than the transmission lock on the 85 is much more positive than the 70 along w/more fel cap & 3 pt hitch capability... the 8540 is a dream, & i strongly recom. the 12 hd tranny that also has a much higher 3 pt. lift cap. can't really say about the swing shift tranny opt. as the 12 sp. will be everything i'll ever need. not 1 complaint after 3 yrs, the "general" keeps making the otherwise mundane a blast..... good luck on your choice.

Our dealer orders the M8540s with the same tires as the standard M9540 which I really like. I am sure there are some differences between the two, but they are minor with the exception of the 24F/24R transmission not being available in the M8540. We have no need for a 24F/24R, so this was not a consideration.

We were prepared to buy either the M9540 or M8540. Money was not really a consideration as this will probably be the last tractor of this size we will buy. According to the salesman, the M9540 burns a little more fuel, but if you take out the transmission option, there is little difference beyond the ten additional HP. We were trading in an 80 HP machine which had all the power we needed, so we went with the M8540 and have no regrets. We use ours mostly to pull a Woods DS1260 10'6" rotary cutter and to do dirt work. We have never run out of power. If we were going to pull a 15' bat-wing, we probably would have gone with the M9540.

The engines are the same as are the 12F/12R transmissions.

That is a very good price on the M9540 the way it is set up.

I really am very happy with mine.
It has all the power I need and so far I have found no need for duel speed.

I may be wrong, but I think that the 24 speed is really only needed if you are using the tractor for farming. So you can easily get whatever speed and power you need to do whatever it is that you are doing in the fields.

Just a guess. :confused3:
