Herald Citizen - Man killed in bushhog accident
This was in Moday's paper. Apparently the man was either fell off or was knocked off back of his tractor while bushhogging and ran over by the cutter. Officials suspect he was knocked off by a tree limb. No information regarding the tractor age or saftey equipment, but this is something to think about for those that are "offended" by saftey switches on today's tractors.

Problem is, a rotary cutter's blades normally turn for a good 30-60 seconds (through inertia) after the PTO is disengaged.
However, assuming this tractor had a ROPS and seatbelt, the seatbelt would have kept him in the seat, even if he'd been knocked out.

well, a safety switch couldnt have stopped the tractor fast enuf if he indeed just fell off while moving. now, a seat belt is something else.

Ain't a race, Bro...

I'm really into safety and I am always amazed about how many TBNers (who should know better) don't wear their seat belts...just keep an eye on posted pictures.

BTW, although I am really into safety, that doesn't mean I've never done some incredibly stupid things in my young life!!

Always amazes me how some justify and rationalize non-safe practices because "it won't happen to me." Like I always say, statistics have to come from somewhere. Like you Roy-J, I firmly believe that one can never be too safe with any machinery. Regardless of the reason and unfortunately for his family, it's another statistic.

Never wore a seatbelt on a tractor never will.
None of our machines have rops or a kill switch and if they had kill switchs I would kill them :)

Unless you don't drive a tractor at all seems like this is a recipe for disaster.:confused2:

That's what they claim a few accident victims said before they were killed ........

All joking aside, I know a lot of guys that are excellent operators and they all can tell you about that one mistake that could have caused their day to become much shorter. There are a lot of things out of my control that can happen and hopefully some of the safety eqpt. will help make sure I get home safely to my wife and kids.
