Tractor
Kubota Grand L 5740, loaded R1's w/640 lbs cast weight, 854 loader
I mentioned several times that I've been feeding my 3240 the best fuels and oils hoping it will grow up and be a 5740 some day. I'm always amazed at what the tractor will do but I always want a bit more.

I looked at a Grand L 5740 with cab and loader this weekend. I'm scrambling to make the numbers work.

I'll have exactly double the PTO power of my 3240, 50hp vs 25 and will have the capability, if I choose, to use catII implements. I can still use my catI implements I already have.

The bigger tractor is a bit longer overall and that would cause me a bit of trouble when I want to load it, my tiller and my box blade in my dump trailer.
I put the tiller on the tractor, load the box blade in the trailer in front of the tractor and put the loader on the gooseneck.
The 3240 fits like this with only inches to spare so I'll have to come up with a solution for that.

If I were to trade for a 5740 without a cab, I'm not sure my wife would ever know the difference. She's kind of indifferent to my "tractoring".
I would probably have a bit of a time getting a cab past her though.

Oh well, I'm kicking it around.

Go for it!! You will love the cab and the extra power. I too have thoughts of my little 3240 becoming a 5740 someday :)

Maybe you can convince the wife that the cab will enable her to use the tractor???

Or better yet tell her how much more work you can get done if you had a cab and did not have to worry with the weather and then you could say, "it would mean more time spent with you honey"...

I just crunched the numbers. It would be a hard stretch. I'm probably going to wait another season, then revisit this issue.

*It woudn't work that way for me.
I'd be on the tractor on those hot cold and rainy days instead of in the house with her.

Yeah but at least you could have a cab.
purty nice doghouse ya know.

Or maybe you mean, since you had a cab, you wouldn't spend as much time with her because you were able to be on the tractor in any type weather???

I went through the same process when I traded my M5040 2wd tractor for my M5040 4wd Cab tractor.......my thoughts were that if I waited a year or so longer that my tractor would be worth a little less, and the new one would cost a little more.....so I decided to go ahead and bit the bullit and get the one I should have bought to begin with.

You might want to look at a M5040 Cab with Hyd Shuttle Shift, try using the build-it feature at Kubota and see how the 2 prices compare.

Your 6ft implements will work if you keep the rear tires set at 60" center to center.

Good Luck.

Prices are within a couple of grand, the 5740 being the more expensive if I did the builder correct. Of course the builder only deals with MSRP.
Otherwise, those are some scary numbers.
Do you have the hydraulic shuttle shift. I want no clutching.

Yes, I have the Hyd Shuttle shift, for FWD/REV, only clutching is if you want to change gears, and then it's sync shifting. The MSRP is scarry, and I looked at both the 5240, and 5740 before I decided on the M5040. The M5040 sits well on my 20+3 gooseneck as well. The M5040 is a larger tractor then the L series, but in the end I thought it was a better fit for my needs.

Have your dealer let you take one for a drive!

Good Luck!
