I ran across a picture of the Kenco triple tine rock grapple. Have any of you used one, and what is your experience? It looks like a really clever idea. Thanks for your input.

Ted, thanks for your post. I'm looking for the best way (using my L4240) to move individual large rocks in and around a stream bed. I'm thinking that the wicked root grapple or others like it would be best for scooping up lots of rocks and dumping in a pile. I thought the triple tine grapple, or one like it, would be best for picking up a single big rock and moving it.

As it turns out, the triple tine grapple is too steep for my current budget, so I am going to regroup and consider other options.

Firefighter, I looked up your thumb. That looks like an affordable way to go. Did you have to reinforce your bucket?

Yes... I have a piece of 1/4 angle iron a
cross the top for a mounting point..

I don't know what size rocks you are talking about but I use a "Thumb Like" grapple to work on and rebuild my old stone walls. Works pretty good for wall size rocks. Here is a wall opening that I made.

Hi Gordon,

The rocks you show in your pictures are about the same as the ones I'll be working with. I used some slightly smaller ones last summer in building a small wall across my creek. When we had our flood last fall, they all tumbled downstream. The force of the water really impressed me This summer, I'll go bigger. Meantime, I'm doing my homework. Thanks for your input.

FWIW...I made a chain basket for lifting big rocks...
...started with a series of increasing sized chain circles and then used 2 longer chains to web it together...the 4 tag ends connect to a lift ring...

Hi Slashpine,

That sounds like a neat idea, also. Do you have pictures?
