Hi Everyone,

I am a new member.

I have a MF 585 SP from about 1960 with a Perkins 4.236.

I cannot find any parts or operation manuals and intend to restore it.

It was Australian designed by Australian engineer Tom Carroll.

Any information appreciated on where I could find manuals and parts.

I also need a comb and would appreciate if anyone knew if a similar year model can share combs.

Long journey ahead.

Thanks for any advice.

G'day Cobber and welcome to TBN from Tassie.

My only suggestion would be to contact some sort of museum to start you on your journey. There's probably a "Sunshine Harvester" museum you could contact who could recommend where to go next.

Enjoy the site... from wherever in Aus you are.

Thanks mate, museum idea is a good suggestion.

I don't even know what it weighs. I know the PTO version was 6000lbs.

I'm in Bungendore in NSW.

The museum was a good tip:

Hi Nathan,

Thank you for contacting Museums Victoria with your enquiry. We have several instruction books and a parts list for the Massey Ferguson, 585 SP Header. They have a date range from 1959 to 1978. We can scan one of the instruction books and the parts list and create PDF versions, though the instruction books have 90+ pages so there might be a fee for this service. If you would like us to create a PDF of one of the instruction books let us know. Please be aware, due to a backlog of scanning jobs, it might be several months before we can get around to it.

I hope you find this information useful. Please contact us again if you have any more queries relating to the Museums' areas of collection and research.

Warm regards,

Good to see Others Preserving these iconic machines. Ive got a 1962 Massey ferguson 585 with the Gason cab and the early round axles. I got a rough date of manufacture off the original generator. try polishing up the generator casing to see if you can get a rough year. I would guess you would have a mid to late 70's model. I also might have a 15ft front sitting around somewhere off a 587 if you are interested. it would be in rough shape but should fit.

Hey nathan, would it be possible to get a copy of the docs you got? Just picked up one of these and can't track down any manuals for it either. I will pm you my email address.
