BCS 740
Hi!

I have a Bcs 740 walk behind tractor with a berta 2 stage 85 cm snowblower.
The Bcs is spinning a lot on snow with the heavy blower, so I have bought studded snowchains to improve traction.
The chains should fit the small 5" x 10" wheels according to the seller.
The included documentation is very limited, and I don’t understand how to mount. I have added two pictures of the snowchains.
Particularly how to connect the parts encircled in red is what I don’t understand.
Can you help?

Best regards
Erling

Looks like the clevises in the red circle connect to the side chain as do the hooks on the opposite end.

Make sure the open side of the cross chain hooks are facing away from the tires.

Yes I suppose that is the case, do you think the chains where clevises and hooks are attached should be threaded through the last diamond shape on the oposite end of the chain, and then attached to the side chain? But that would create a double layer of chains for a short section.

I don’t think I would ever want/have a double layer of cross chain.

If when you wrap the chain around the tire there is extra chain creating a "double layer" its would seem like the chain is too big for your tires. Sections of chain can be removed by cutting links with angle grinder.

Here is a quick video of installing and modifying chains to fit properly:

Can you return these chains for the size you need?

The chain hooks in the picture on the right get attached to the chains in the picture on the left to form another diamond. They do not get layed on top, or form a double layer. To secure those hooks, figure out which link in the loose ends on the other side they will fit best with the chains tight. Cut off the excess. Hook the hook onto the link and then pound the roll pin in the hook down so that it secures the links from coming loose.

Folks that are new to tire chains get nervous about it sometimes, but in almost all cases, new chains will need some links cut out of them in order to fit the tire properly without loose links hanging off to get snagged on things. They make the chains a bit big on purpose so they can fit more than one tire size and to accommodate variances between different manufacturers and tread patterns within the same tire size.

Thanks for helpful replies. I tried to mount the snowchain on one of the wheels today, does it look correct?
The chain is very loose even when I use the innermost links. I may need to cut open one triangle as illustrated on the image.

Tough to tell without being there. It's normal to have to cut new chains to fit.

As mentioned without being their it is hard to advise you on how to proceed.
Normally the inner diamond pattern chains will be arranged to be hand tight with the excess chain being long tails to go to the side chains. Were they fasten to the side chains does not need to be at the end of the chain often it will be 2-4 links up from the end. Your side chains should have the same number of unused links on each side. All of the chains both inner and outers need to be kept even and "square" if fastened unequally the chains will tend to walk off.

Do you have elastic straps/tensioners to keep the tire chains taut?
Every tire chain I ever bought fit without having to modify its design first.
To me, this sounds like you don't have the correct tire chains.
