Kubota L3901 & LA525
After months of shopping and waiting, the dealer just called and is going to deliver the tractor today at noon.

Question: when pricing the tractor, I didn't get a price on filling the tires and he now wants $250 to fill'em. Is that price right?

GaryS, Generally I'll say as my dealer put it to me,"If the tractor leaves here with a loader on it, It has the tires filled " That's basically safety related to help do two things keep backend down when lifting something heavy and to aid traction in filling loader . If he quoted you filled he should fill.
You should ask him don't you automatically fill the tires when a loader is bought with the tractor?UH I digress , Does the tractor have a loader? or not ,If yes he should if not it's on you /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yeah, it has a loader and the tire fill question came up only because I asked if the 7' rear blade I was buying was going to be enough ballast. He never suggested nor offered a ballast box. He said he could fill the tires for $250 which seemed high to me. When I asked he said it was better because you don't have anything sticking out back. I really should have taken care of that when I was dealing.

I ordered: 1428v hyrdo, 1464 loader, 5' woods brush bog with slip clutch, 7' rear blade.

One other thing, I asked if he filled with Rim Guard and he said he used an antifreeze mix that is the same thing. Is it?

Unless he says he uses rim guard ,I would assume he's using something else ,probably as he said antifreeze mix,As long as the mix won't rust the rims it should be ok.Ask him if it will or not?He should know ? Do you trust him? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yes, I do - at least I did enough to decide to buy a tractor off him! He said it was like antifreeze and that it had stuff in it to keep the rubber soft. We had to postpone delivery until Monday morning but I think I'll take a ride to visit him after work today.

I think I'm really concerned with the price - $250 just seems high to me. I think I could have bought a ballast box for much less...

What should it cost to fill tires?

I'm not sure what it should cost ,maybe some other TBN'r could help out on that one? I will check with my dealer tomorrow...Was that 250. ea or for both?

It was for both.

I've tried to figure out how many gallons go into rear tires on a 1428v. I have r4's My best guess is around 30 gallons per tire and I read in another thread that rimguard is about $2 per gallon. Total materials is about $120 retail. Still seems that $250 is high.

Gary, I got ahold of my dealer and they were trying to tell me that they use methanol and it was $4 per gallon and $25 to install it per tire,NOW that sounds HIGH too me buddy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

They mix the methanol with water like you do anti-freeze. I can't remember the %.

They dropped off the tractor this morning. They were an hour late, they brought the wrong brush hog, and FEL looks like its used.

I set a 9am delivery time so I could have time before running into work. They arrived at 9:50 so all I had time to do is park it in the barn before running into work.

I ordered a slip clutch Woods BrushBull and they delivered a Howse shear pin.

The FEL is my biggest concern. I noticed a lot of rust and called to complain but upon closer inspection I'm seeing even more problems. The boot on the FEL control is completely ripped. Two of the hydraulic lines are cut. Paint on the FEL control is flaking off due to rust.

I'm really pissed. I took a bunch of pictures and plan on being at the dealers tomorrow at 8am. They're either going to fix it or they can take the darn thing back.

I can post pictures here if anyone's interested in seeing my "new" fel.
